What are activated abilities in Magic?

An activated ability is a cost followed by an effect. Planeswalker loyalty-based abilities and the keyword mechanics equip, cycling, and ninjutsu are also activated abilities.

Zirda, the Dawnwaker and Training Grounds reduce activation costs, while Rings of Brighthearth and Illusionist's Bracers copy abilities. Rings alongside Basalt Monolith helps create infinite colorless mana by copying Monolith's untap ability.
