What are lands in Magic?

Lands are permanents that normally provide mana and form the foundation of a player's mana base, serving as the lifeblood of all Magic decks. Unlike most cards, lands are played rather than cast, and players can normally play only one land during each of their turns.

Some lands offer much more than mana. Dark Depths can combine with Thespian's Stage to create Marit Lage, Field of the Dead can produce Zombie tokens, and Bojuka Bog can exile a player's graveyard when it enters the battlefield.
