What are experience counters in Magic?

Experience counters are counters placed on players rather than permanents. They remain with you even if the card that created them leaves the battlefield, allowing certain cards to become progressively stronger as your experience increases.

Daxos the Returned uses experience to create increasingly large Spirit tokens, while Minthara, Merciless Soul turns your experience total into a growing bonus for your creatures. Proliferate can also increase experience counters already on a player.
