What is aggro in Magic?

Aggro is an archetype that aims to win quickly by deploying cheap, efficient creatures and attacking before opponents can set up. Aggro decks keep a low mana curve full of one- and two-drops. Aggro is often strongest against slower decks and weakest against board wipes, lifegain, and cheap chump blockers.

Haste creatures like Goblin Guide deal damage the turn they arrive, while Adeline, Resplendent Cathar creates extra attackers each combat. Lightning Bolt works as both removal for blockers and reach to finish off an opponent after creatures stall. In Commander, higher life totals push aggro decks toward mass pump effects and extra combat or combat steps and tricks to close out games.
