What does fling mean in Magic?

Fling effects turn a creature's power into direct damage, usually by sacrificing that creature as part of the cost or effect. The larger the creature, the more damage the fling can deal, making high-power creatures especially effective ammunition.

Yargle and Multani offers a wonderfully excessive 18 power to throw around, while Malignus can naturally scale to enormous size. Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord uses a similar idea by sacrificing large creatures to drain every opponent at once.
