What does Commander Matters mean in Magic?

Commander Matters cards become stronger, cheaper, or otherwise behave differently because of your commander. These effects make the command zone and the presence of your commander an active part of your strategy rather than merely its starting point.

Fierce Guardianship becomes free while you control your commander, Loyal Apprentice starts producing Thopters once your commander is on the battlefield, and Commander's Plate scales its protection around your commander's color identity.
