What is Arcane in Magic?

Arcane is a spell subtype from the original Kamigawa block, found on instants and sorceries. It matters mostly through splice onto Arcane: as you cast an Arcane spell, you can reveal a card with splice from your hand and pay its splice cost to add that card's effect to the spell.

Desperate Ritual and Glacial Ray can be spliced over and over, while Goryo's Vengeance and Through the Breach splice onto cheap Arcane spells like Lava Spike to put creatures such as Griselbrand onto the battlefield.
