What is airbending in Magic?

• Avatar's Wrath
• Appa, Steadfast Guardian
• Airbender Ascension

Airbend is a keyword action from the Avatar set. Airbending an opponent's expensive permanent costs them some turn tempo, and airbending your own permanents can let you dodge removal or let a creature with an ETB ability trigger again. Airbended tokens cease to exist, since they can't be cast from exile.

Avatar's Wrath clears most creatures from the battlefield while leaving your own ready to return for two mana each, and Appa, Steadfast Guardian can airbend your permanents to protect them from removal. Airbender Ascension repeatedly exiles and returns a creature once it has enough counters.
