What is amass in Magic?

Amass N puts N +1/+1 counters on an Army creature you control, first creating a 0/0 black Army token if you don't have one. War of the Spark introduced amass with Zombie Armies, and The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth expanded it to amass Orcs.

Dreadhorde Invasion amasses every upkeep, Orcish Bowmasters amasses whenever an opponent draws extra cards, and Sauron, the Dark Lord amasses whenever an opponent casts a spell. Stalwarts Hardened Scales and Doubling Season increase the counters each amass adds, and proliferate grows your Army between triggers.
