What is heroic in Magic?

Heroic is an ability word used for abilities that trigger whenever you cast a spell that targets the creature with heroic. Heroic decks therefore load up on cheap combat tricks, Auras, and other targeted spells that become more valuable than their printed effects suggest.

Phalanx Leader distributes +1/+1 counters across your team, while Akroan Crusader creates tokens. Cards such as Defiant Strike are particularly useful because they can trigger heroic while replacing themselves with another card.
