Lesson is a spell subtype introduced alongside the learn mechanic in Strixhaven. Learn can retrieve a Lesson from outside the game where format rules allow, giving decks access to a small toolbox of situational spells.
Introduction to Annihilation provides flexible removal, while Academic Probation can temporarily shut down a troublesome card. Secrets of Strixhaven later returned to the Lesson subtype on paradigm spells even though learn itself wasn't a featured mechanic there.
