Vanilla creatures have no rules text or abilities. Their usefulness comes entirely from their mana cost, power, toughness, creature types, and whatever support the rest of the deck provides.
Muraganda Petroglyphs famously rewards creatures without abilities with +2/+2, turning a lack of text into an actual mechanical theme. Tokens without abilities can also benefit from the same strategy.
