Description
{"ops":[{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"\"Hey. Don't try licking that. The blade is toxic. Very, very toxic.\""},{"insert":"\n\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"GAME STATS:"},{"insert":"\n8 Games Played: 1W/0D/7L; 3 Last Place\nDeck KO's: 4\n\nA bit of a cheesy Bracket 2 Rat deck that uses Nashi for Grave Recursion, Rats for Tokens and ETB effects, various Discarding and Mill effects, and spells for Infect/Toxic mechanics. While it still needs more personal testing, applying Poison Counters early with Unblockable Rats or spells and Profilerating them afterwards is the main idea here.\n\nThis deck isn't as focused on damage and board pressure like my Marrow Gnawer deck, and likewise, your Rats won't be getting as huge due to the lack of playing so many Rat Colonies and burn cards. Because Sacrificing, Tokens and your Graveyard isn't as important to this deck as it is for him, you should try to play these guys a lot more tactically than I would with Marrow Gnawer.\n\nNashi is pretty unique, basically allowing you have two copies of each Rat and Legendary in your deck. Because these are casted as Token Copies of the original card, I believe they can be impacted by other Token cards like Mirkwood Bats or something that could double Tokens as well, if you choose to play them. You also have a few cheap ETB Rats, forcing players to discard or take additional Poison Counters as you cast them multiple times throughout the game via Nashi or Ninjutsu abilities.\n\nBecause your Rats are going to be weaker and easier to block against than Marrow Gnawer's, you have several Rats that will be able to be sneak past blockers through abilities like Skulk, Shadow or simply, \"This Creature cannot be blocked by X Power\" types of effects. Certain Lands can make your creatures Unblockable as well, and for those Rats who can consistently go unblocked, you should ideally be using your Infect Enchantment or Artifact cards on them. While Marrow Gnawer is in the 99, don't rely on him to make your Rats unblockable with Fear! You're mostly going for guaranteed Poison Damage on everybody at once, rather than gunning for high power Rat Colonies and Pack Rats to swarm the field with.\n\nYou have many more options with Nashi, thanks to his access to Blue and Green. While you totally could use more Counterspells or cards like Fog here in exchange for a few of your Rat cards, that's really up to you. Similarly, there are some additional Enchantments, Creatures and Instants that could double down on Poison, Discard or Milling. I chose to go more into Proliferate spells, but the main thing to worry about is using your Poison spells to apply counters on all players early through the use of your Sorceries and Instants. Otherwise, your Proliferate triggers will just fizzle out and be wasted!\n\nFor your main counters to this deck, once again Blight/Wither and Flying decks will unfortunately cause you a lot of issues. Commanders like Ruric-Thar are also an issue for Nashi, as many of his essential cards aren't permanents. Decks that start going wide quickly, such as Goblins or Rogues, can cause Nashi some issues due to him being a little slower than other Rat decks, on top of him just not having as much for Token generation as other Rat decks. Control-heavy Blue or Graveyard Hate decks can obviously be a problem too, as if you get counterspelled or your grave is exiled during a crucial moment, you might just be SoL.\n\nOpposingly, decks that love large graveyards may also cause you some problems due to your own Discarding effects, and unlike with my Marrow-Gnawer deck, you don't have as many ways of exiling cards consistently in those graves. And because of cards like Ink-Eyes, exiling graveyards can sometimes work against you if they mill or discard something that you want to steal! Lord Skitter and Vren both exile cards as well, so be careful about what you play if you're planning on stealing something with Ink-Eyes to help you out. Against something like a Teval, you might want to substitute in a couple of Exile cards like Skullsnatcher, who can also exile nastier cards from opposing Graveyards.\n\nYour main win-cons are very different than Marrow Gnawer. While Marrow Gnawer is all about buffing your Colonies and/or burning everyone down with Tokens, Nashi needs those Poison Counters. Only needing 10 direct damage for a KO is much more realistic for this build, so use those Infect and Poison Artifacts and Enchantments wisely and learn when to push with certain creatures and spells. You can still get pretty big Rats with Nashi, but it's not consistent and isn't something to rely on. You're playing sneaky and cheesily, not big like Marrow-Gnawer or Ashcoat. Keep poisoning the table and don't be afraid or worried if you're playing a little slower. Every opponent only has 10HP for you, and you have many ways to keep chipping away at that as your Discarding is slowing them down over the course of a game. The biggest downside is potentially being targeted early once people realize you're playing a Poison and Discard deck, as Nashi does tend to struggle at defending himself early on in some higher end matches and 1v1 scenarios.\n\nThis deck is still being experimented with, so it's prone to be adjusted as I play with it more!\n"}]}
