Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Krenko is my 1st. Deck Build. \n\nOver the course of the pandemic, my sons were kind and gracious enough to teach me the card games they played as younger people. I stumbled on a content video for the Lorwyn Eclipsed release, mentioned that I could probably play and once they explained that it was 'Magic: The Gathering', the fun began, (I had only played YuGiOh! until that moment). \n\nAfter a few games of Standard (60's), we built 100 Card Commander decks from bulk that a family friend donated to our cause, I found Gimbal, Gremlin Prodigy and 'Tinker Time' On-Line, that PreCon taught me so much about the more formal table mechanics in a 4 Pod and what to expect in a busy, advanced board-state. I began to itch for the opportunity to build a deck of my own and came up with the idea to build a Red/Black Rakdos Deck with the Balrog at Commander and Krenko featured in the 99. My oldest son explained that Krenko is a well established Commander, all on his own, but the idea of a Mono-Red build somehow seemed more intimidating to me at that time. \n\nWhat I brought to the table was clunky, slow and felt 'fumble'y' when I played it. I was a day or so later when I thought I should, at least look through the bulk and see if any of the cards we have might support Krenko at Commander. Of course, when I finally found myself in a position to do that exact thing, my oldest son was already going through the bulk. He dropped what he was doing and gave himself to my efforts completely. I was happily surprised with how much we found and how well everything seemed to synchronize. Away went all the Black, The Balrog was added to another deck and Krenko was born. \n\nAfter a few Pods and some initial play testing, I found myself On-Line and looking over some strategies and established mechanics that most Krenko Builders expect from their Decks. It was here that everything changed for me. The Studio space (in our basement), that our boys use for all of their musical efforts , shares itself with the space we use for all things storage. I ran down the stairs and came up with the box of Red Bulk, my oldest son looked on in confusion as I came up with one of the cards we had opted to bump from the build, "},{"attributes":{"italic":true,"bold":true},"insert":"Hematite Talisman"},{"insert":", a 2 Drop that allows Un-Tapping after a Red Spell is Cast. \n\nI pulled the card from the bulk, showed my son and explained the mechanic that I had just stumbled on. My oldest son and his S.O. are educators, his joy at (me), his 57 year old father 'learning', gave me more happiness than I can convey here. \n\nThat was a moment I can only compare to, very few others, in my lifetime. There are any number of reasons as to why, finding this new passion has been so rewarding and fulfilling for me, not the least of which has been sharing it with my children. From this moment, learning this simple card game mechanic, I haven't looked back. Indeed; Krenko became \"My Deck\" from that point forward, and building this deck in such a way that \"Nobody Wants to Play With Krenko\" has been an absolute joy, but I couldn't possibly take full credit for him. Truly, I share this Deck Build with a number of very gifted, talented and patient young men.\n\nhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/7CbiEfQZGaGl98sVMpTNmE?si=AteobqcuSwCi4J9-bEg10w\n\n*Owned Paper Deck\n"}]}
