Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"The idea behind this deck is that I never swing at anyone. The only way I can win is by getting Vikya to tap dance.\n\nI wanted to build around an untap ability and turns out, of the 18 cards in all of Magic that have a {Q}, only one can be our Commander. But the untap ability on it is pretty decent, if over costed, so that's okay. I figure with that game plan, this probably has to be bracket 2, which is fine. The amount of damage it can deal in a single turn and the limited ways to interact with that damage makes me think I should be shooting for bracket 3 though? I question if it is too slow/not impactful enough for Bracket 3 because of the game plan, but too scary for Bracket 2 and would eat ALL of the removal run at that bracket. Or is it already Bracket 3?\n\nMost of my decks are a little odd (Go-Shintai no shrines, River Song Reanimator, and The Twelfth Doctor/ Clara Oswald color/strategy changing deck for example) and I know I tend to build glass cannon decks... But I do want them to feel like I have to answer questions when playing them instead of letting the deck run on autopilot. Hence this pile that is just finicky and fidget-y enough to make me have to make decisions and sequence things well, but not so much so that I am taking 15 minute turns and still horrendously misplaying. I also wanted a deck that forces me to get better about discarding cards that isn't reanimator. (I put in cards i want to play, dangit?!)\n\nNotably, I already have a Boros Equipment Voltron list and did not want another. So I originally said no equipment, at all, period. I did make exceptions for the Bracers that double abilities, and a couple protection pieces, so it has become \"no buffing equipment\" which is a hard line. Though if it will work well without any equipment, that would be awesome. And the not wanting Voltron is part of why I said no swinging at anyone, as the commander damage would likely become the focus then, not the untapping. I realize that is skipping half of Vikya's textbox, and that it is the easiest way to buff her without equipment, but it is the other half I want to focus on, so... The no swinging is another hard line. Which does mean the tap outlets are vitally important for the deck to function. Also, since she can function as targeted removal as well, I did go very lite on that in the deck (honestly don't recall if I even did put in any) though a StP or the like might be worth including?\n\nSo general game plan: \n1) Get ramp\n2) Get tap outlet\n3) Get Buff\n4) Get card draw - to hand, not exile \n5) Get multiple activations\nBonus) Get more bang for our buck: damage multipliers, activated ability doublers, Pain for All...\n\nThere are a couple other untap ability cards in the maybeboard, though they feel like they don't make the cut and/or detract from the Vikya untap game plan. I do like some of the other cards in the maybeboard, but not sure where to cut if I do run them. Screaming Nemesis seems decent to keep players from undoing my NCD. But also maybe too mean since I can shoot it with Vikya and not give anyone a choice on attacking into it? Meekstone as a little protection/Stax and also gives me fresh mana and a still tapped commander, assuming I have some kind of buff on board. I have a copy of Ten Rings "},{"attributes":{"strike":true},"insert":"in the mai"},{"insert":"l, so will need to find a cut for that. Pulled a Gleaming Splendor. And in the works on a trade for Deflecting Swat, even if it doesn't get run here...\n\nI am sure there is a term for this, but I have been thinking of it as a porcupine defense. I like the idea of having blockers that hurt my opponents rather than pillow forting as one furthers the game plan and the other stalls things. Indestructible blockers were what I prioritized, but others might be better? Most of the indestructible are equal to power, not damage taken.. Or more might be the call? Or scrapping the idea entirely in order to up the counts of the pieces required to make the deck work? Either way, I don't want to durdle, which is why I didn't want to pillow fort and why I made the exceptions for the equipment I did include. I don't want this to be unfun to play against (why I'm considering Bracket 3), as then it becomes unfun for me to play. Difficult or tricky to play against, mustdiefirst - sure, but time and fun suck - no. But perhaps I need to slow things down to have time enough to do The Thing in Bracket 3?\n\nCards I'm considering cutting:\n1) Squee, Goblin Nabob - repeatable discard but not seeing more of my deck\n2) Aetheric Amplifier - not enough +1/+1 cards?\n3) Flowstone Embrace - the toughness debuff makes it not repeatable same turn. But buff and tap outlet in one is nice..\n4) Unwinding Clock - Win-More?\n\nCards I find interesting here (not necessarily married to):\n1) Eartha Jo - doubles my activations and provides +2 buff for Vikya, means having cast nothing else we can deal 8 damage on one activation\n2) Land Tax - never miss a land drop and plenty of discard fodder. Pulled all the basics out of my deck the game I had it turn one...\n3) Avatar Roku - my opponents attacking gives me the mana to activate Vikya during their combat. Could see it becoming Stax-y? Was countered the one game I tried playing him, so not sure how it would feel on board.\n4) Adagia, Windswept Bastion - getting extra copies of Thran Dynamo, All That Glitters, or Heartstone is really good in addition to being a free, repeatable tap outlet \n\nCards I am kinda Married to and would hate to Divorce:\n1) Deflecting Palm - been a pet card since I beat my buddy with it and scarred him for life of swinging into someone with open WR mana\n2) Honor-Worn Shaku - one of the best mana rocks for this deck, and gives me the fidget-y aspect I am looking for\n3) Pain for All - Kediss at Home for this deck. One of the best effect multipliers since it hits all my opponents. Can also redirect copied effects if I have say Rings of Brighthearth out (and the creature survived fhe first round). Magical Christmas Land maybe, but 6 shots off one {Q} - me likey. And bring in some damage multipliers... math isn't just for blockers\n\nFrom the games I have played:\n1) Dealing nearly 30 damage in a single turn is scary to opponents and there will be retribution and removal coming quickly thereafter (and oddly enough, same outcome when dealing 64 in one turn)\n2) Deck is capable of recasting Vikya - a lot\n3) Deck is capable of killing 2 players in one turn - a lot\n4) Possibly need more card draw? \n5) Possibly need more recursion?\n6) Possibly need more protection from fliers?\n7) Possibly need more blockers?\n8) Possibly too many tap outlets?\n9) Possibly too few tap outlets? - Too few instant speed tap outlets?\n10) Possibly need to mentally change what needing to mulligan looks like?\n11) Possibly too many lands? Feels weird saying that. But considering the ramp and card velocity... this is my only deck it has even crossed my mind with\n12) Does it need more consistency game to game or do I need more reps to get a better feel for what it is/can be? Or is it just gonna be an all or nothing kinda deck?\nAnd big one - Possibly too slow?\n\n*** Is there a reputation for Vikya I am unaware of? Third game with the deck ever, against a player I have never played against, he wanted to counter her on the first cast with only a ramp piece on the board. Second game I had to cast her 4 times, but at least that was after I had dealt a good bit of damage so it made some sense.\n\nRecord : 3/8 - Once on turn 13 after a game full of board wipes, twice on turn 8/9\n* I care less about the winrate for a deck than I do it doing The Thing. Sometimes, I think getting taken out first is just a sign it was REALLY doing The Thing, and therefore not a bad thing. \n\n(Group by - Categories (Multiple) might be the best way to view)\n"}]}
