Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"\"Council Says No\" is a draw-go control deck.\nIt's also a tokens deck. And a Knight typal deck.\nThis deck can win with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Approach of the Second Sun"}},{"insert":" , or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Twenty-Toed Toad"}},{"insert":" , or by beating your opponents to death with Knight tokens. In short, it's versatile.\n\nLet's start with the deck's engines. One of the deck's strongest engines is using "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Howling Mine"}},{"insert":" effects in combination with either the Council themselves, "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Smuggler's Share"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Trouble in Pairs"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"The Unagi of Kyoshi Island"}},{"insert":" , or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Faerie Mastermind"}},{"insert":" to force a second draw from opponents, which then gives you a draw (or two, in the case of the Unagi). Giving your opponents cards is always risky, obviously, but for the cost of 1 extra card in each opponent's hand, you get a total of 5 across a turn cycle with Council, or 4 with the others. This is very strong. Combine this with cards like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Caretaker's Talent"}},{"insert":" that let you draw off of the entering Knight tokens, and the card advantage the Council can provide is truly insane. The deck also has engines for mana advantage, including the aforementioned Smuggler's Share but also "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Monologue Tax"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Tataru Taru"}},{"insert":", and to some extent "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Archaeomancer's Map"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Emrakul's Messenger"}},{"insert":". These ramp engines are very much needed for your 5 mana commander, especially given its tendency to attract removal.\n\nAll but one of the deck's tutors can fetch one of our howling mines: "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Muddle the Mixture"}},{"insert":" can find the mine itself or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Kami of the Crescent Moon"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Idyllic Tutor"}},{"insert":" can find "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Dictate of Kruphix"}},{"insert":", and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Tribute Mage"}},{"insert":" can also find the mine. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Solve the Equation"}},{"insert":" can tutor chain for Muddle or Idyllic, but is probably better used to find other important spells, such as board wipes or Second Sun. Idyllic Tutor also finds many of the deck's protection pieces including "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Ghostly Prison"}},{"insert":"/"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Propaganda"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Solitary Confinement"}},{"insert":", not to mention most of the deck's draw and ramp engines.\n\nIdeally the deck's game plan is to hold up interaction in the early game until you get Council and (ideally) a howling mine in play. At that point, you will start drawing a ton of cards and building up a boardstate of Knights. Supplement your army with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Invasion of New Phyrexia // Teferi Akosa of Zhalfir"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Silverwing Squadron"}},{"insert":". Depending on your draws, you can now go for any of the three wincons. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Vodalian Wave-Knight"}},{"insert":" can make your Knights really big quite quickly, which combines with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Herald of Hoofbeats"}},{"insert":" and the other token buff cards in the deck to create an unblockable wave of massive tokens. You can also finish the game off with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Moonshaker Cavalry"}},{"insert":" and your board of Knights. Alternatively, you can win with Twenty-Toed Toad and a big enough hand, although this is very telegraphed and the toad will become a removal magnet. Finally, Second Sun is in the deck along with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Remand"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Unsubstantiate"}},{"insert":". Hold priority while casting Approach, then use either of those spells to bounce the card back to your hand. Then you can recast it either on the next turn, or, depending on your mana, even on the same turn.\n"}]}
