My first run lasted through Mirage block, and I returned for Onslaught—still my favorite set of all time because I loved its creature-focused decks. After another break, I came back for Magic 2011 and played through Innistrad block. Marvel Super Heroes recently pulled me back in, and I’m having a blast catching up on everything I missed.\nI didn’t get into Commander until 2026, but I quickly fell in love with the format. Being able to build new decks around cards I’ve owned for decades makes Magic’s history feel alive again.\nMy greatest Magic regret? Not buying the Black Lotus sitting in the display case at my mall’s card-store kiosk for $300. Unfortunately, $300 was a fortune to a high-school kid, and my parents weren’t about to spend that much on one piece of cardboard. In hindsight, that cardboard had a better retirement plan than most people. Funny thing is, now you can't even get a collector booster for less that that Lotus would have cost me.\n"}]}
