Description
{"ops":[{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"(6/10 in EDH Color Pair Project. Aim of this personal project is to create an EDH deck for all 10 color pairs that aims to showcase an unorthodox strategy from what the colors normally do.)"},{"insert":"\n\tThis one one of the color pairs where I knew from the start that "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Hofri Ghostforge"}},{"insert":" was going to be the commander and that the archetype was going to be a control based playstyle. Me and a few friends have toyed around with some iterations of a Boros control list in Pioneer. The decks playstyle was always fun as would always surprise us. This version for commander aims to control based off of ETB effects and mind control effects on creatures to turn them into value for ourselves via sacrifice outlets and then make a token copy of those creatures that are spirits via Hofri. So yes, we do have a rather \"rude\" gameplan.\n\tWe have several classic sacrifice outlets in "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Altar of Dementia"}},{"insert":" (which can double as a wincon in a way), "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Phyrexian Altar"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"High Market"}},{"insert":" , and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Ashnod's Altar"}},{"insert":". "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Bogardan Dragonheart"}},{"insert":" is one that is a nice one to have around as well since it flies under the radar a bit since its payoff isn't great. We also have "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Goblin Bombardment"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Martyr's Cause"}},{"insert":" as enchantments that give us some solid payoffs for sacrificing. Pairing these with Hofri's ability allows to decide when and what we copy on our own rather than just an extra plus from an opponent killing our things. Again we are aiming to duplicate several ETB effects of our own such as "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Duergar Hedge-Mage"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Imperial Recruiter"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Skyclave Apparition"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Kor Cartographer"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Solemn Simulacrum"}},{"insert":" to name a few of the lower to the ground effects. We also have some great recursion effects in "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Sun Titan"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Reveillark"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Karmic Guide"}},{"insert":". "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Venerable Warsinger"}},{"insert":" is also a nice bit of recursion which is already a spirit and will be buffed by Hofri as soon as it enters. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Feldon of the Third Path"}},{"insert":" is also recursion for some of our bigger creature targets we may lose or sacrifice to continue looping their effects if needed. A new inclusion I found was "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Agrus Kos, Spirit of Justice"}},{"insert":" that works nicely as when he enters you can suspect something and then Hofri will give him hast to swing right away which will exile your suspect right away. He is also a spirit so can also be a decent threat on his own. Now the main feature of this deck are all the mind control effects we have on creatures and on sorceries to steal our opponents things and begin to sac them to gain our own value. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Zealous Conscripts"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Coercive Recruiter"}},{"insert":" ,"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Conquering Manticore"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Molten Primordial"}},{"insert":" are the main ones that have ETB triggers we can take advantage of repeatedly by sacrificing them. Sorceries such as "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Act of Treason"}},{"insert":" are other main ways we will be taking control of target creatures. Normally I find these help us get our engine going until we can get some of our mind control creatures out on the field. We do have a few board wipes at our disposal in "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Cleansing Nova"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Austere Command"}},{"insert":" that can still benefit us as Hofri will see the deaths and give us some more triggers even if he dies himself. A few big cards that help as majorly with our gameplan are "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Anointed Procession"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Terror of the Peaks"}},{"insert":". Elesh Norn doubles our ETBs and disables our opponents, Procession is going to turn our creatures from two for ones to three for ones at least when it comes to our ETB triggers. Terror is probably our biggest and easiest win con we have access to in direct damage to the board or oppoensts. Elesh Norn works amazingly with both these cards as well.\n\tWe are playing control so while in friendly games may decide to avoid certain targets in lieu of the table having fun, when it comes to most games I don't really hesitate about stealing the best target. While the deck is not weak per se, we are doing a strategy that is not common for our colors and revolves heavily on our commander and there is no guarantee we will always have access to "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Swiftfoot Boots"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Lightning Greaves"}},{"insert":" to give him some protection. So I aim to take every opportunity that presents it self. Our board is naturally tough to deal with once Hofri is up and a sacrifice outlet is in play since we can just sacrifice things in response and lose nothing for the most part. Even when we have to sacrifice our tokens, we have ways to utilize our graveyard still. This can also add to some of the frustration when playing against this deck. I have never ran into any issues but it is something to consider. There are a few cards I am looking to change or improve on as this deck is a little older and hasn't been updated as much as my others.\n"}]}
