Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Tasigur has long been a boogeyman of sorts. Here is a commander that can easily be both used as an infinite mana outlet for Thoracle decks, and is also a perfect Neoform sacrifice target that enables horrifying crimes through either going through Scholar of the Lost Trove to grab Hoarding Broodlord and enable combos, or to blast everyone in the table through Toxrill, Hullbreaker Horror, and whatever other flavour of terror the pilot likes inflicting upon their quivering friends.\n\nI'm not interested in any of that. Instead, I'm fulfilling a dream I had, born of watching Legacy Natural Order decks. I wanted to build a deck that could grind value into the mid and late game, while also having a built-in \"combo\" that can infuse the deck with an explosive element when possible. I think I've fulfilled that dream in more ways than one. \n\nStarting off, this is still a Neoform deck, but instead of having specific combo lines that it goes through to end the game as soon as possible (or to take an insurmountable resource lead), the deck aims to grab one of several silver bullets that each push a different gameplan, depending on available resources and the opposition. The toolbox includes recursion with Sin Spira's Punishment, ramp through either Conspiracy Unraveler or Beledros Witherbloom (whom can also generate a board presence), and even an additional line into 8 mana creatures through Scholar of the Lost Trove, which leads into Pestilence Demon for go-wide hate and Baleful Force as a draw engine. This is a flexible set of silver bullets (sadly slightly hampered by the mana requirements and WotC design, since they don't print a lot of high mana engines and most high mana creatures are 6 mana nowadays), and it can adapt to a number of different situations. \n\nTo enable this strategy, I'm running a wide package of self mill and graveyard filling at the 1 and 2 mana slots, as well as a spattering of ramp for some acceleration. These packages are mostly creature-centric, and this is due to an additional layer of synergy: I actually built TWO \"combos\" in this deck, with the second being based around the Undergrowth mechanic. \n\nThe cards Spider Spawning, Revenge of the Rats, and Kessig Cagebreakers are all capable of summoning a massive army that's as large as the number of creatures in the graveyard. The mill engines enable this by filling the graveyard with creatures (and even occasionally spiking one of those flashback spells), but these armies in a can also enable Quiet Speculation to tutor them + Dread Return (and Increasing Confusion for a second shot at milling) to enable an additional strategy based around reanimation. Quiet Speculation is a 2 mana spell, which is convenient as it can be grabbed by the same budget-friendly Transmute suite of cards that tutor Neoform. This prevents additional Transmute cards drawn from being dead cards, since I can just follow the other combo line through Speculation. \n\nI'm less satisfied with the deck's support categories. Deck space is quite sparse here, and every slot needs to be carefully considered. I do not believe I've done a good job at integrating enough draw into the deck in order to keep a filled hand, and this crops up often in stallouts during the midgame. I'm thinking about how to solve the issue, and I would appreciate any input given. It's a similar story with the deck's interaction: some removal engines, some countermagic, and two sweepers, but I fear that the density might also be too low here. I would like to have most of my support categories be filled with as many creatures as possible too to make the Undergrowth cards function as best as they can.\n\nAll in all though, this is still quite a satisfying list for me. I believe it accomplishes its goals well enough for an early draft, and it does it at a power level that I'm pleased with. I'm looking to improve it within the power level constraints that I set out on meeting. \n"}]}
