Normally, there is little reason to keep an Arclight Phoenix in the hand (it is situationally dependant) and you want it in the graveyard. Remember that Arclight can also be more than just an attacker and can be a recursive blocker or resource in its own right, and is good at doing so due to haste making its cost of death less taxing on your future combat decisions. Swifty is best as an attacker, ok as a blocker, and is bad when it is inactive. Similarly, swifty and other prowess creatures want to be on the board early, also when you are casting spells to trigger "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Arclight Phoenix"}},{"insert":". It is often the case that you may draw into a Swiftspear with a "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Faithless Looting"}},{"insert":" style effect, and when you do, you have to determine if it is worth it to have a swiftspear be another threat this turn.The extra toughness and haste makes it worth its slot in the deck, as it is the most aggressive one-drop around.\n\n4x "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Dragon's Rage Channeler"}},{"insert":" \n\tDRC is the most decision intensive card in the deck. To decide what is valuable in the graveyard, hand, and top of library comes with time. Some general tips are that :\nIntrinsically, this mode is here to satisfy the conditions for DRC's Delirium ability. I wouldn't be keen to cut them, and I normally stick to them as a 4-of. This artifact is your late game threat, and also an early-game card too. Very important to setting up. If you have fetchlands, you can use it for topdeck manipulation. If you don't you can use it for information as to the top card of your opponents or your deck. Pretty useful little card, lots of things you can do with it from playing it proactively with prowess / more neutrally with shuffle effects.\n\n4x "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Manamorphose"}},{"insert":" \nThis card is good, and you should always run them as a four of. Generally if you generate some value off of these besides their floor of \"Pay 2 : Get 2. You can also filter out lands with these, and try to dig for answers or direct damage to finish a game. The floor is you shoot your opponent for one in the face, the ceiling is killing two valuable creatures. Kills 1 toughness creatures very well, kills opponents arguably even better. Pick off X/1's first normally, then opponents face. Instant speed is relevant, you can use it last minute. It is often better in the graveyard than the hand, so putting them into the graveyard is good.\n\nFlex Slots"},{"attributes":{"header":1},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\n\tIn my deck, excluding the 36 Core cards and the 18 Land cards, this leaves a total of 6 flex slots. You can tailor these to your meta, or experiment to find a personal preference. I don't like it in Izzet Phoenix, and I don't like it in Mono Red Phoenix. It is far too slow, doesn't give instaneous value and asks too much to use it. It can be a free 4/3 body which can cast spells from the graveyard, but it is very slow. You get no instantaneous payoff, and is thus rather dull. Furthermore, this card doesn't have any evasion, which is why "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Arclight Phoenix"}},{"insert":" is so good.\n\n2-4x "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Bloodfeather Phoenix"}},{"insert":" \nI have seen this card in some lists, but I have my doubts about its usefulness. I think comparing how good "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Bloodfeather Phoenix"}},{"insert":" vs "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Chandra's Phoenix"}},{"insert":". 1 mana vs 3 mana is a lot, and I think 0 mana and 1 mana is also a similar difference. In addition to that, the stats are worse, but overall not a bad pick if you are running some level of "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Gut Shot"}},{"insert":" and/or other direct damage spells to help trigger this card.\n\n1-2x "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Bonecrusher Giant // Stomp"}},{"insert":" \n\tGreat card if you need to grind, and is fine at doing so. 2 mana to shut off protection effects isn't bad, the 2 damage is pretty good, and the body is also quite nice. I think this card is better in other shells, but it's not a bad card at all. Multiple of these cards exist, where their main purpose is to get you to filter through cards and put cards into the graveyard. Izzet Phoenix runs "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Traumatic Critique"}},{"insert":", which is good since it draws before the discard. Mono Red doesn't have this luxury, and thus relies on other effects that work similarly to get cards into the graveyard neutrally. I'll run through the purposes of each of these spells, why you might want to run them, and why you likely want to play "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Grab the Prize"}},{"insert":" or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Highway Robbery"}},{"insert":".\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Grab the Prize"}},{"insert":" in my opinion is the best of these spells. Other cards are heavily build-dependant and meta-dependant to determine their effectiveness, and this card just best in slot in a generic list."},{"attributes":{"indent":1,"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Highway Robbery"}},{"insert":" is a close second. While I think that other cards are better, if you run double strike enablers this card is better. Giving the opponent a tapped 1/1 isn't a cost if they are dead.
