For most players, she says \"if your library is empty, you win the game.\" \n\nI call that play pattern for her Boracle. We're here to use Thoracle the way Richard Garfield intended: If our deck has 80 cards in it when we cast her, then we need a devotion of at least 78 so that her two added pips win us the game! The goal of this deck is a \"Legit Thoracle Win\", where we're winning through mono blue devotion greater than our library. \n\nObviously to do that, we're gonna need a lot of blue pips (and if we do some draw along the way, that doesn't hurt)! Unfortunately, a lot of the pip intensive cards are bad, so we're playing the decent ones, and a lot of clone effects. For a fun exercise, scroll down and look at the mana curve. It's beautiful.\n\nWe have a few subthemes in the deck, such as wizards (good sources of blue devotion and card draw), but really our main goal is to use Animar as cost reduction (he's not key to the deck, but a lot of these cards are expensive and I've tried to keep it creature-heavy so he maximizes value) and try to keep enough draw engines online that we're converting 100% of our mana-per-turn into devotion at a 1-to-1 rate. \n\nOne big decision point was that 5 color would give us access to a few more of the hybrid 5-devotion creatures, but the white and black ones were the least useful to the deck's play pattern, and forced us into 5 color slop commander choices. I was happier sticking with temur as the best balance here.\n\nAn ideal early game looks like casting a mana rock on turn 1 or 2, Animar on turn 3, and then slamming a 4+ pip card ASAP, then spending every turn on clones and draw engines. Once your cost reduction is up and running, hopefully you are dropping big guys every turn and quickly counting up. If you draw Thoracle, hold her quietly in hand until you're feeling devoted enough. Otherwise, if you draw any of the Thoracle Tutors Three ("},{"insert":{"card-link":"Step Through"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Merrow Harbinger"}},{"insert":", or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Vedalken Aethermage"}},{"insert":"), similarly just hold onto them until you're feeling devoted enough to Thoracle!\n\nMake sure to do a show of dramatically counting your devotion and cards in library regularly (during other player's turns so you aren't holding up in the game) rather than waiting until you draw Thoracle, since we don't want players to know when she's in hand!\n\nIf Thoracle does somehow get milled (or countered?), all is not lost! Hopefully you held onto one of the Thoracle Recursions Three ("},{"insert":{"card-link":"Recall"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Hour of Eternity"}},{"insert":", or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Back from the Brink"}},{"insert":") to either grab her back to hand or make a token copy of her!\n"}]}
