Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Unlike other 47 Ronin decks that have a sensible amount of creatures and a useable mana base, this deck is exactly what it says on the tin: forty-seven of the fifty Samurai cards in Boros colors available at the time of assembly. Risona serves as commander over Raiyuu because most of the samurai in the deck are from old Kamigawa and lack the \"attacks alone\" triggers to create meaningful combos. I did sub him in on a few occasions for fun to some success. Risona's main utility comes from using Nesting Grounds (which can be tutored with Expedition Map) to move her indestructible counter to one of the other samurai. Isshin was not used in the commander slot simply because he is one of the most popular and powerful commanders in the format and this deck is intended to be a fun and flavorful joke. Due to the insane number of creature cards, this deck is very thin on artifacts, enchantments, and even lands. Most of the lifesaving evasion needed to stay in the game came from instants. With so few slots left for tools in the toolbox, dual face lands make up for some of the utility gaps as well. \nThis deck won a total of one (1) game via a clutch Deflecting Palm cast for lethal damage before being stripped for parts. \n\nNotes on some of the cards: \nKonda, Lord of Eiganjo became the first card I ever proxied not because of his $5 market price tag, but because I could not find a copy after trying 4 game stores within a 2 hour drive.\nOathkeeper and Kusari-Gama were added during that trip on the recommendation of one of the employees at the last game store I tried. Expensive but fun and cool cards.\nKentaro is generally considered a bad or weird card but was a crucial piece of mana fixing for this deck.\nI own two printings of Brothers Yamazaki with different art which my pod usually allowed me to use (because this was the worst deck at the table), ignoring the singleton rule for that card. \nUsually the second Brothers Yamazaki was used to replace Ronin Cavekeeper or another high cost card. \n\nThe three samurai that were cut from the lineup:\nSokenzan Renegade: This deck did not need any help being weird or bad, and a creature that bounces to whomever has the most cards in hand, while funny, is not helpful.\nIronsoul Enforcer: While not a terrible card, I did not have enough artifacts for his effect to be worth it and I had trouble finding a copy at my LGS\nSky-Blessed Samurai: This creature was replaced by The Wandering Rescuer as soon as Duskmourn came out and I could find a copy. With one enchantment in the deck, he was way too mana expensive to be worth keeping. \n\n"}]}
