Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"For this February’s deck-building contest, the Fifteenth Doctor is joined by his only-slightly-possessed boyfriend Vislor Turlough in a deck I’ve titled “Two Many Tentacles.” The possessor at hand is Gyruda, Doom of Depths (aka the Black Guardian), with whom Vislor has made a deal with for great power, though with the stipulation that every card in the deck has an even mana value. Now, while the Fifteenth Doctor isn’t necessarily a huge fan of his boyfriend’s demon kraken companion, the three have come together here to host an array of tentacled eldrazi as they travel in and through time and space together.\n\nMechanically, the Fifteenth Doctor has no issue with Gyruda’s restriction as he’s able to recur any and all of the 18 different two-mana artifact ramp pieces as soon as turn 3. Given the density of targets for the Doctor, the deck is frequently able to turbo-ramp out to six mana by the end of turn 4, potentially enabling a turn five Gyruda even with the cost of putting it in our hand. After that initial burst, the deck is primed to pump out giant (often quite tentacle-y) creatures, including at least one copy of each of the big three eldrazi titans.\n\nWith those key pieces in place, the rest of the deck is built around facilitating the game plan, including a small blink package that can help retrigger the Doctor, Gyruda, or even return Vislor to our side of the field when he feels like coming good. Additionally, given that the Doctor can mistakenly mill past some of the deck’s bigger targets in his search for even more ramp, the deck includes a suite of additional reanimator support to help ensure that none of our giant tentacled friends are sitting in the bin for too long. Finally, the combination of Unwinding Clock, Leyline of Anticipation/High Fae Trickster, and the Doctor can enable us to play our big beaters on other people’s turns too, keeping the flow of tentacle-y goodness flowing turn after turn.\n"}]}
