Description
{"ops":[{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Approach the Cult"},{"insert":" is a Rakdos Commander deck built around turning repetition into inevitability. At its heart are two cards that explicitly break Commander’s singleton rule: "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Dragon’s Approach"},{"insert":" and "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Shadowborn Apostle"},{"insert":". Rather than feeling split, these engines reinforce each other. Dragon’s Approach burns the entire table repeatedly, softening life totals and enabling explosive turns, while Shadowborn Apostles flood the board and convert themselves into game-ending Demons. The deck doesn’t play fair Magic; it plays "},{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"inevitable"},{"insert":" Magic.\nThe commander, "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Rakdos, Lord of Riots"},{"insert":", is the glue that makes everything snap together. Because Dragon’s Approach damages each opponent, Rakdos is trivially easy to cast, often earlier than he has any right to be. Once Rakdos is on the battlefield, his cost reduction turns enormous Demons and Dragons into bargain-bin threats, letting you dump your hand in a single turn. Burn enables Rakdos, Rakdos enables creatures, and those creatures then push the game decisively out of reach.\nOn the red side, Dragon’s Approach is more than just a burn spell. Repeated casts pressure life totals, fuel damage doublers like City on Fire and Fiery Emancipation, and eventually tutor Dragons such as Terror of the Peaks, Knollspine Dragon, and Ancient Copper Dragon directly onto the battlefield. These Dragons either generate absurd amounts of mana, refill your hand, or turn every subsequent creature into direct damage, making it nearly impossible for opponents to stabilize once the engine starts rolling.\nOn the black side, Shadowborn Apostles form the cult that gives the deck its name. Twenty Apostles, backed by sacrifice outlets and payoff enchantments like Dictate of Erebos and Grave Pact, let you control the board while assembling Demon tutors. Sacrificing six Apostles to fetch Razaketh, the Foulblooded or Archfiend of Despair often marks the beginning of the end, as tutoring chains, life-drain effects, and cost reduction quickly snowball into a locked game state. Thrumming Stone turns this from strong to explosive, sometimes dumping a critical mass of Apostles onto the battlefield in a single turn.\nUltimately, "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Approach the Cult"},{"insert":" wins by attacking from multiple angles at once: life totals collapse under repeated burn, boards crumble under sacrifice pressure, and massive threats appear far earlier than opponents expect. It shrugs off creature wipes, punishes slow starts, and forces the table to respect both spells and creatures simultaneously. The name starts as a joke, but by the time the chanting gets loud and the fourth Approach or sixth Apostle resolves, everyone understands the warning they were given.\n"}]}
