Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Thirst Trap – Indoraptor the Perfect Hybrid.\n\nIndoraptor looks like a scary combat commander with bloodthirst… but it’s all a trap. We aren’t trying to win through thirsty creatures. No, to quote Jurassic Park – combos “find a way” and we’re going to enable the thirsty dino to do just that. \n\nThere are a lot of combo options in this deck, but we’re really focused on Indoraptor (or any bloodthirst creature), Cauldron of Souls, Mycosynth Lattice, and Dross Scorpion, with multiple options for sac outlets to perform a combo. The ideal combo goes like this – any bloodthirst creature, cauldron of souls, blasting station, mycosynth lattice, and dross scorpion. But redundant sac outlets like sac altars allow infinite damage through pyrohemia/pestielence as well. \n\nTo execute the either combo we need the following: combo pieces on board, and an opponent was dealt damage this turn. For the first version:\nActivate Cauldron of souls, targeting a creature with bloodthirst and giving it persist."},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Activate Blasting Station by sacrificing that creature (which is also an artifact due to Mycosynth Lattice). This triggers Persist and Dross Scorpion."},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Persist resolves first and your creature enters with +1/+1 counter(s) due to bloodthirst. "},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"The ETB also triggers and untaps Blasting Station"},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Then Dross Scorpion resolves and untaps Cauldron of Souls. "},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Resolve the damage from Blasting Station in step 2, and REPEAT for infinite damage."},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nTo help find combo pieces, we have a lot of redundancies. We can effectively replace Blasting Station with Altar of Dementia and Grinding Station for mill OTKs, or instead use Phyrexian Altar or Ashnod’s Altar for infinite mana, as stated above, which we can also pour into Pyrohemia or Pestielence for another win condition with a little more set-up. This second variation of the combo can also use already good protection spells that give indestructible, as a back-up to enable infinite damage combos through Pyrohemia and Indoraptor’s random burn effect. This version of the combo is so entertaining, but the set-up is sort of convoluted so it’s our back-up rather than the focus. \n\nTo get us there, we need some help. We aren’t in Blue so our access to artifact tutors is limited, but we do have some options and we do use them. We are also running a lot of draw support to help us churn cards since we need a lot. At the end of the day, cards that are not part of a combo or a redundant piece, need to help us enable bloodthirst so we have burn and +1/+1 counter packages to help jump-start us. Protection cards help keep creatures on board and also double as redundant combo pieces with Indoraptor and Pyrohemia/Pestielence, allowing the dino to randomly control the board and burn down our friends/foes. \n\nThis turned out to be way more entertaining than I thought it would be. At the end of the day, our commander reads “combat”… but it’s all a trap for some convoluted combos. \n\n\n"}]}
