Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"This is a Golgari token deck that falls somewhere in what I'd call the 'high powered' range. Meaning it's not a cEDH viable deck, but it does have a variety of 3 and 4 card infinite combos that can end the game relatively quickly. Over time, I've discovered that Chatterfang being both a combo enabler and a repeatable source of removal in the command zone tends to fair pretty well against creature based decks and decks that are lighter on removal.\n\nHere are the primary combo lines:\n\nChatterfang + Pitiless Plunderer + any squirrel and a black mana = Infinite death triggers\nScurry Oak + Ivy Lane Denizen = Infinite squirrels and an infinitely large Scurry Oak\n\nBy combining any of these combo lines with Blood Artist, Mirkwood Bats, Nadier's Nightblade, Syrr Konrad or Zulaport Cutthroat, you should be able to win the game on the spot by draining out the table provided you have one mana to sacrifice all the squirrels to Chatterfang's ability. You can do so at instant speed and don't even need to let the ability resolve since sacrificing the squirrels is a part of the cost and will put all the death triggers on the stack. Peregrin took also adds another token onto your token producing effects and is a great way to grind out additional value alongside Chatterfang.\n\nBut Chatterfang is also able to play a grindier, midrange game too. Cards like Attrition, Yawgmoth, Gothmoth and Eldrazi Monument make each squirrel token (or other token) you have punch far above its weight as either a removal spell or a blocker that makes your opponents think twice. While Toski, Keeper of Fables, Skullclamp, and Yawgmoth can give you repeatable card draw that will help you keep producing tokens and grind out advantage.\n\nLet's talk about token producers:\n\nMore than twenty cards in this deck are able to produce tokens, which will net you squirrels as long as Chatterfang is out. The strongest ones, in my opinion, being Arasta, Awakening Zone, Chittersplitter, Orcish Bowmasters (Gasp!) and Scute Swarm. All of these can quickly spiral out of control in the right situations. In general, I've found that you want to built up 3 to 4 squirrels in addition to Chatterfang if you can. That allows you to use Chatterfang's ability to remove problematic threats while also giving you some blockers or allowing you to get in for chip damage. That being said, once you have more than 4 squirrels in play, people tend to perceive you as a real threat so it's better to save your more explosive token generating effects (things like Deep Forest Hermit, Deranged Hermit, Doubling Season and Galadhrim Rush) for turns where you know you want to kill a player or go for the win. \n\nOne last token-generating card I want to sing the praises of is Wand of Orcus. When equipped to Chatterfang, it'll generate 3 zombies and 3 squirrels without any sort of effects that would otherwise buff Chatterfang's power (keep in mind you can use Chatterfang's ability to buff it's power to 5).\n\nIn general, I prefer to play Chatterfang first before the token producers, but since the deck has such low average mana value (only one card costs more than 5 mana at the time of writing) it can occasionally be right to just play out your spells on-curve. There are also tons of cards that will net you an effect and a token (Pest Infestation, Tzat's Will, Foreboding Fruit and Many Partings being some examples)\n\nFinally, the lands package:\n\nAs I was building this deck, I decided to build in a 'Lands' sub-theme that I find synergizes really well with Chatterfang. The four traditional 'Landfall' cards (Scute Swarm, Tireless Provisioner, Tireless Tracker and Zendikar's Roil) all reliably produce tokens and are quite busted with Ghost Town in particular. I used to run Sakura-Tribe Scout and the Bounce Lands to run more of this effect, but found that was a bit too slow for the deck overall.\n\nThe deck's manabase is also built to take advantage of Field of the Dead which can both gum up the board and create a source of repeatable token generation for Chatterfang. Field of the Dead is usually my primary target when searching with Crop Rotation or Hour of Promise, but there are plenty of utility lands (Bojuka Bog, Maze of Ith, Oran-Rief, and both Yavimayas) that are worth searching up depending on the situation as well. Field of the Dead is another card that Ghost Town can make really bonkers, and is often my primary target to copy with both Thespian's Stage and Vesuva. \n\nOverall, this is a combo-y, artisocrats-y tokens deck that I find plays some odd cards and seems to always impact the game. I'd love to hear your thoughts on cards that could be added or taken out of the list to push it further!\n"}]}
