Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"I've marked this as a bracket three, but honestly you can probably flex it up to a bracket 4 table, and with good communication and honesty could possibly be brought down to a bracket 2, though I'm less confident of that than I am the other way. deck is just Sultai doing Sultai things. As is, you have three win-cons, all working together in synergy. The first is the win con "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Teval, the Balanced Scale"}},{"insert":" lends itself to most obviously, milling for ramp and getting tokens from it. There is a lot of graveyard synergy, as you might expect from a Sultai deck, and a land count of 39. This is admittedly a little low for a land focused deck, but this leads us into the next synergistic win con: Sacrifice Synergy. \n\nThere is a small package of sacrifice outlets that are primarily focused on sacking lands to be brought back later for more benefit. Notably the only included game changer: "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Field of the Dead"}},{"insert":" lets you make zombies whenever a land with a unique name ETBs, doubling the number of tokens that Teval is making (IF you want to focus on these tokens, you can make a couple swaps for cards like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Doubling Season"}},{"insert":" that double your token generation, but that is not where I want this to go, the tokens are a nice bonus, not a focus.) Then, there are a few other Landfall cards to get benefits from this too. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Braids, Arisen Nightmare"}},{"insert":" can force your opponents to sacrifice lands or give you card draw, or if there is a particularly threatening artifact/enchantment, it can be used for that also. Now, yes, you are creating value with sacrifices, including helping you go wide, but the go wide sacrifice synergy also lends itself to the next win-con.\n\nExtreme recursion. This deck was built to grind and grind opponents to dust. Cards like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Sheoldred, Whispering One"}},{"insert":" let you keep pulling creatures from your graveyard, and cards like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Garruk's Uprising"}},{"insert":" make them more threatening by giving those threats trample. And of course, "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Muldrotha, the Gravetide"}},{"insert":" lets you then recur any card type while it is on the field, including other recursion engines like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Virtue of Persistence // Locthwain Scorn"}},{"insert":". When this deck is doing what it wants to do, you should be totally out-valuing your opponents turn after turn. That said, there is very little available instant or sorcery recursion here so if you would like to add a package for this, consider adding a few cards like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Mystic Sanctuary"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Archaeomancer"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Mnemonic Wall"}},{"insert":" or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Salvager of Secrets"}},{"insert":" . To do this though, you need to actually get cards into your graveyard, and yes, combat and sacrifice is one way to do that, but much more efficient is Mill.\n\nPrimarily, you are trying to mill yourself, though there are a few splashed options that will also mill your opponents. This is not a win con though, just your primary value engine to support the final win con: Draw. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Twenty-Toed Toad"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Laboratory Maniac"}},{"insert":" are included to give you benefits from the speed you can churn through your deck. Your primary win con is LabMan, as with how fast you should be churning through cards and all the ways you should be able to get him out of the graveyard, you should be able to get him on the field in the late game when your deck is nearly empty. Twenty-toed toad is less intuitive, but with cards like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Reconnaissance Mission"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Up the Beanstalk"}},{"insert":" you should be able to get a good amount of draw in over the course of only a few turns. \n\nFor the interaction suite, I was primarily focused on protection like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Counterspell"}},{"insert":" and focused removal like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Assassin's Trophy"}},{"insert":", as you should be able to break through most creatures with combat and sacrifice package, but there is a single board wipe included in "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Necromantic Selection"}},{"insert":" in case someone has built overwhelming creature advantage. My main playgroup use plenty of board wipes, so it felt extraneous to include more. That said, if you are playing with a group of people who do not play enough removal, consider swapping in a few extra pieces of mass removal like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Damnation"}},{"insert":" or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Blasphemous Edict"}},{"insert":". \n\nFinally, I have included a selection of cards in the maybeboard, if you would like to change the game plan of the deck up a bit. It should be pretty evident which cards should come as package deals, but just as an example: If you wanted to not run the draw engine as a win con, you can remove TTT and LabMan to replace them with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Kozilek, Butcher of Truth"}},{"insert":", turning your grind game essentially infinitely long. Inversely if you wanted to lean heavier on draw as a win con, you can add in "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Jace, Wielder of Mysteries"}},{"insert":" and some combination of "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Bident of Thassa"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Baleful Strix"}},{"insert":", and/or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Kindred Discovery"}},{"insert":". I would not recommend swapping in all of the maybeboard pieces at once, as many of them have counter synergy, but if you feel that the deck is too unfocused or you would like to lean into one of the game plans I have included, you can swap in a package or two. \n\nSide note: if you can, PROXY! This deck wants as many different named lands as possible, many of the most desirable lands are expensive. That said, this deck functions fine without that, though the fewer different lands you run, and the more basic lands you run, the less valuable Field of the Dead will be, so consider swapping that out for either mana fixing via something like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Chromatic Lantern"}},{"insert":", or just for something else I mentioned here, perhaps Mystic Sanctuary (since you should have more islands) to let you recur non-permanent spells.\n"}]}
