Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"This deck was based on a single card. I won an auction for a beautiful foil copy of Jeska and knew I had to do something with it. It's one of my favorite works by RK Post for the elegant simplicity. I saw building this deck in the modern era of cards designed for EDH as a fun challenge. As a commander, Jeska doesn't offer anything particularly special. No global, game-changing impact or repeatable ability to draw cards or gain mana. Nope, she taps to ping for one damage and she has haste. At four CMC and a toughness of one, that's not great by today's standards.\n\nSo what I did is take a look at how to make her viable in a four-player game. Red is great at direct damage. There are new damage amplifying cards printed every year and at least two TRIPLE the damage dealt to your opponents. That turns Jeska's ping into 3, 6, 9, maybe even 18 or 27 damage! But there are creatures that redirect damage to an opponent also available to red - Screaming Nemesis, Brash Taunter, and Stuffy Doll are the ones I picked. So, if I deal 3 damage to one of them with a damage tripler on the board it then deals 9 damage to an opponent! Let alone something like Blasphemous Act hitting them for 13! \n\nThis combo isn't necessarily clear to most players but the deck needs to be able to survive long enough to pull it off (usually no earlier than turn 8 or 9). So I had to take a look at what else red could do to incentivize players to swing somewhere else. For that, we use goad! The Curse of Opulence and Rite of the Raging Storm help, too.\n\nIn summary, this deck is built to provide different options for dealing with threats and survive long enough to deal massive damage in mono-red fashion. Let me know if you tried something similar or have any recommendations. Thanks for reading!\n"}]}
