Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"The Necronomicon is primarily a thematic work of art and homage to my time with MtG and beyond, but powered up as much possible within those thematic confines. Starting with Grimgrin as my first commander 13 years ago, it evolved briefly into Wilhelt and its final form landing on Varina...or rather, Linda...the perfect choice for the theme. \n\nThe sole purpose of this deck is to bring about a zombie apocalypse upon the multiverse. It can be stopped easily with some early removal but if you dont stop the infection early, it can suddenly overwhelm any opposition. In the case of this deck, it wants to create zombies, feed them even if some die, and when the board jams up, will go into infinite zombies or drain or some convoluted mix. It can go off on turn 2 with a specific god hand and no interruption, but is comfortably dangerous around turn 6. There is a significant amount of creature control, but little for other pemanents or defenses, rather, choosing to return the dead for further use and continue to apply pressure. Getting Linda down on turn 3 allows for early filtering, which helps keep it under the radar as its not pure draw, and is a reliable engine to dig for sources of mana and card draw, in addition to many other synergies. But she is not essential and it can win without her. If a zombie in hand isnt immediately usable, dont be scared to pitch it to the grave for future use. \n\nThe maybeboard is a replacment package for all the gamechangers if wanting to tune it down a bit. Running the decklist through Commander Salt is giving it a ranking just over 8...but take that with a grain of salt.\n\nAll the specific versions of the cards are what I have assembled in paper. Almost everything that can be foiled is and old border preferred to new, any deviations from these are intentional, like Gravecrawler. Two cards that troubled me in terms of artwork not fitting the theme and yet irreplaceable in their effect were Kindred Discovery and Reconnaissance...both of which have been altered to fit. Kindred Discovery was freely \"zombified\" by Kat from Mother of Cards and Reconnaissance, changed to an image from the original Evil Dead of a possessed Cheryl locked in the basement, by Brazilian artist Sidnei Lee, is absolutely stunning. Grimgrin is one cut I'd make if he wasnt so important to the history and thus he remains. And not only remains, but gets honored in serialized form. \n"}]}
