Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"This was my original 'Crash MTGO' deck, because every time I played it, MTGO crashed. WotC did themselves and the community a disservice by never making the Nephilim legendary- and I had always wanted to make an Ink-Treader deck that I could bring to my playgroups and actually play. After an abortive attempt with several local groups, all of which refused to let me play it, I gave up and disassembled the deck. \n\nBut I wondered if, perhaps, there was a way to still make my dream come true- and so I built this on MTGO. A deck designed around a hidden commander- a card that could never be the legal commander, but would still be the fulcrum the deck turned around- and this is it. I've played this a lot- and found that it's a deck that you can't play with any given playgroup more than a couple times, usually only enough to have it 'go off' once. But it's still one of my favourites because it's just so damn wacky and fun. \n\nThe short short version of how this deck plays and wins is that you get Ink-Treader Nephilim onto the field with cantrips in hand and enough creatures on the field. If there aren't enough creatures, the deck relies on enablers like Natural Affinity (an all-star that's always useful), Make Mischief, Heat Shimmer- and other token generators that flood out the board with creatures. Once sufficient creatures are out, a single cantrip becomes dozens of casts, which turns into dozens of card draws. With ramp cards like Swell of Growth or Journey to the Oracle, all the lands in hand can be deposited into play and immediately used, as well as ramp cards like Storm-Kiln Artist. Everything you draw is just fuel for the fire, until you can get out one of several win-cons. Aetherflux, Fateful Showdown, Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, or Ral, Storm Conduit all enable various means of winning. Most of those are direct damage, though jace will just let you draw out the deck for the win. \n\nA major subtheme of the deck, taking advantage of the mechanics of copying spells, are Splice cards. The majority of these hail from Kamigawa, though some splice-onto-instant/sorcery cards were printed in Modern Horizons. When an instant or sorcery is copied, everything that is spliced onto it is also copied allowing for impromptu modification and reuse of otherwise non-qualifying spells (ie: spells that don't target Ink-Treader Nephilim). These cards, used in conjunction can generate mana, gain life, pump creatures, further fueling the combo until you're self sufficient. \n\nUltimately, the deck is very tricky to play- but very rewarding too. I'm looking forward to the full release of Strixhaven's previews to further update it, because casting and copying instants and sorceries is what this deck's jam is!\n"}]}
