Description

{"ops":[{"insert":"This is a Rakdos exile-and-Treasure deck built around making playing cards create the resources needed to play even more cards. Prosper, Tome-Bound provides both halves of the engine: Mystic Arcanum continually gives access to cards from exile, and every card played from exile creates a Treasure. Once Prosper is established, impulse draw stops being temporary card advantage and becomes ramp as well.\nWrenn's Resolve, Light Up the Stage, Commune with Lava, Jeska's Will, Glimpse the Impossible, Valakut Exploration, Wild Wasteland, Bonehoard Dracosaur, Chandra, and other effects continually put cards into exile. Wiccan, Young Avenger adds a particularly aggressive version of this engine, exiling another card whenever a noncreature spell is cast. If that card is another noncreature spell, casting it can trigger Wiccan again while Prosper creates a Treasure for playing it from exile, allowing a single spell to begin a much longer chain.\nThe deck is built to snowball those small exchanges into increasingly explosive turns. Xorn adds an extra Treasure to every batch, Goldspan Dragon makes each Treasure worth twice as much mana, and Crime Novelist generates additional red mana whenever an artifact is sacrificed. Academy Manufactor turns individual Treasure creation into a Treasure, Clue, and Food, multiplying both the available resources and the number of artifacts entering the battlefield.\nRain of Riches turns Treasure mana into cascade, while Wild-Magic Sorcerer gives the first spell cast from exile each turn cascade as well. Nalfeshnee goes even further by copying spells cast from exile, including permanents. A single card played from exile can therefore create a Treasure, trigger damage payoffs, cascade into another spell, and sometimes produce a second copy of the original spell before the first chain has even finished resolving.\nHeroes for Hire fits directly into that engine. It arrives with three Treasures and then allows any Treasure to be sacrificed to exile another card from the top of the library. That means excess Treasure can be converted directly back into cards. With Prosper on the battlefield, playing one of those cards creates another Treasure and potentially starts the process again. The Treasure sacrificed to Heroes also triggers the deck's many artifact- and token-sacrifice payoffs, so turning mana into another card can hurt the table at the same time.\nProfessional Face-Breaker performs a similar role, converting combat damage into Treasure and then allowing those Treasures to become additional cards from exile. Hedron Detonator can sacrifice artifacts for more impulse draw, while Atsushi can choose between two exiled cards or three Treasures depending on which half of the engine is currently missing. Ragavan and Decadent Dragon also combine combat with both Treasure production and access to additional cards.\nThe Treasures are much more than mana. Reckless Fireweaver and Ingenious Artillerist damage the table as artifacts enter, while Mirkwood Bats punishes both creating and sacrificing tokens. Nadier's Nightblade and Marionette Apprentice drain opponents when those resources leave the battlefield, Agent of the Iron Throne lets Prosper punish sacrificed artifacts himself, Disciple of the Vault adds another artifact-death payoff, and Mayhem Devil turns every sacrifice into another point of damage wherever it is most useful.\nA Treasure can therefore trigger damage when it appears, provide mana, trigger more damage when it is sacrificed, and use that mana to cast an exiled card that immediately creates the next Treasure. In this deck, the mana engine and the damage engine are essentially the same machine.\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Thor, Guardian of Midgard adds an especially dangerous new layer to that machine."},{"insert":" Whenever one of the deck's sources deals noncombat damage to an opponent, Thor can turn that damage into more cards from exile. Reckless Fireweaver and Ingenious Artillerist can therefore convert Treasure entering into both damage and additional cards, while Mayhem Devil can turn sacrificing that same Treasure into another damage trigger and another opportunity for Thor to dig deeper.\nPassionate Archaeologist becomes particularly nasty with Thor because casting a spell from exile deals damage equal to that spell's mana value, and Thor can then turn that damage into still more cards from exile. Even Delayed Blast Fireball can become a huge reload when cast from exile, dealing five damage across the opposing battlefield and giving Thor an enormous amount of new material to work with.\nThis creates the kind of feedback loop Prosper loves: "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"play from exile, make Treasure, trigger damage, exile more cards, sacrifice Treasure for mana, trigger more damage, and use that mana to keep playing from exile."},{"insert":" The deck still has to pay for its spells, but once several engines overlap it can chew through an enormous portion of the library in a single turn.\nChimil, the Inner Sun provides another powerful source of free spells through discover while making the deck's spells uncounterable, and Hoarding Broodlord can stash an important card in exile while giving spells cast from exile convoke. Sensei's Divining Top helps control what Prosper is about to exile, reducing the chance of losing an important card or revealing something that cannot be used efficiently.\nThe gameplan is to establish mana and one or two value pieces early, get Prosper onto the battlefield, and then begin turning every card played from exile into additional resources. The deck does not need to play every card it sees. Instead, it wants to keep the chain efficient: play the useful cards, let Prosper refund part of their cost with Treasure, and gradually establish payoffs that make each Treasure worth far more than a single mana.\nOnce enough pieces are established, turns can become long chains of exile, Treasure, cascade, copies, artifact triggers, and sacrifice triggers that steadily drain the entire table while continuing to generate cards and mana. Wiccan and Thor make those chains even harder to exhaust because both can convert actions the deck was already taking into another wave of cards.\nThe deck does not rely on one specific finishing line. Reckless Fireweaver, Ingenious Artillerist, Mirkwood Bats, Nadier's Nightblade, Marionette Apprentice, Agent of the Iron Throne, Mayhem Devil, Disciple of the Vault, and Passionate Archaeologist can simply accumulate enough damage that playing the deck normally becomes lethal. Ancient Copper Dragon and Treasure Vault can also create enormous Treasure bursts, suddenly giving every artifact-entering and token-sacrifice payoff a pile of ammunition.\nThe best Prosper turns feel like spending the same dollar over and over: "},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"exile a card, make a Treasure, turn the Treasure into damage, spend it, find another card, and keep going until the bookkeeping becomes the win condition."},{"insert":"\n"}]}
