Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"This deck is meant to serve as a teaching tool for a new player that addresses a few major pitfalls that I noticed in the gameplay of some newer players.\nThere are a few things that this deck teaches:\n\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Attacking is generally good"},{"insert":" - "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Zoraline, Cosmos Caller"}},{"insert":" and all of your bats encourage you to attack while also diminishing the repercussions for doing so with lifegain, flying, and vigilance. This allows the new player to feel more at ease attacking and progressing the game - an issue I have seen with many new players, especially in commander with the social element making attacking even less desirable. There are also cards that introduce the monarchy as a fun way to encourage more attacking at the table as a whole.\n\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Life is a resource"},{"insert":" - There are a couple of very powerful draw engines in the deck - "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Lunar Convocation"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Necropotence"}},{"insert":" , and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Necrodominance"}},{"insert":" being the standouts. These require you to use the life you have accumulated as a resource to get the most out of them. Necropotence and Necrodominance are definitely complicated cards, but I trust that the new players will be able to learn from them, as they are the most direct line showing that life is a resource (seen in the classic magic article \"The Philosophy of Fire\"). Life being a resource to be spent is an important lesson as I have seen many newer players chump block with important creatures even when at high life totals just to preserve their life total.\n\n"},{"attributes":{"bold":true},"insert":"Pay attention to your triggers"},{"insert":" - I tried to include quite a few cards that trigger off of things during your own turn (NOT during your opponent's turn as that can be overwhelming at first). Triggers are an easy thing to miss for even seasoned players. Having the new player have to pay attention to the triggers can be complicated and a little draining, but it will prove well worth it in the future when they have to deal with staples like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Rhystic Study"}},{"insert":" that care about every player's actions. Plus it is pretty fun to see the numbers get large from a bunch of triggers happening all at once.\n\nApart from the layers of complexity for the player to understand later on, I tried to make sure that the core premise of the deck was quite simple - play a swarm of bats, attack with said swarm of bats. This gives the new player something to latch onto before they start to learn the lessons that the deck teaches. Over time, they can learn more and more about the game as they become more invested.\n"}]}
