{"ops":[{"insert":"I opened a foil Gandalf the Grey in a booster pack and was in love with the foil treatment. I wanted to play such a pretty and flavorful card in commander but I had no idea where he would fit in. The place on top of library clause really stumped me as deck builder. Such a well-designed card didn't deserved to be relegated to bulk rare box, so I placed him in my binder with the rest of my pretty cards. \n\nI would revisit the idea of making a commander deck with him at the helm every couple of months to see if anything new sparked an idea but to no avail. The same problem stopped me cold, that put on top of library clause. Powerful in theory, awkward in practice. Gandalf lingered in my binder for months alongside other cards I loved but could not quite make work in Commander.\n\nEventually, the idea clicked. What if instead of fighting that clause, I built around it? A polymorph-style deck could actually turn his top-of-library manipulation into a feature rather than a bug. I even fell in love with the idea of copying a polymorph spell and responding by putting Gandalf on top so the copy would immediately hit him again. Cute, clever, and very on-theme.\n\nAs I dug deeper, I hit another wall. There are only so many good polymorph effects and only so many creatures worth turning into, until I noticed Dragonstorm sitting right next to Gandalf in my binder. Another card that I had always want to play in commander but never felt just right.\n\nThis deck is the result of finally uniting two cards I had tried and failed for a long time to make work. There are stronger commanders that could helm this strategy, but none of them would be as meaningful.\n"}]}
