Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"As is tradition with newer set releases, we're overwhelmed with new card choices for commanders and cards in the 99. Since the release of Fallout UB a few weeks ago, I've been trying to pick my way through the set and find any hidden gems, and I think I've found just what I was looking for in [[Red Death, Shipwrecker]]. In commander, some players don't enjoy having to play against goads because it takes agency away from players, and that is understandable, but what Red Death does is ease the pain of being goaded by giving opponents a card draw for their troubles and us one floating red mana. This is where the real (crab) meat of the deck really is: the ability to politicize the table with card draws to manipulate combat in our favor, and if opponents don't want to participate, we will force them to do so, essentially the illusion of choice. \n\n\nRamps & Rits: In this iteration of the deck, we're running lots of the usual budget suspects for our mana rocks considering our color identity. Sol ring, signets, talismans, etc. nothing particularly interesting outside of the inclusion of [[Curse of Opulence]], [[Misleading Signpost]], [[Shiny Impetus]] which help us manipulate combat and then [[Patriar's Seal]] to serve as a dork/untapper combo. We don't have to be as worried about our rock-to-curve ratio when it comes to casting Red Death because it will be incredibly consistent to see an island and mountain in an opening hand if you are taking full advantage of your mulligans or if you just play a normal amount of lands (36-39). \n\nDraw & Advantage: Red Death is going to give our opponents a card advantage, so we need to make sure that we aren't falling behind the rest of the table when it comes to drawing cards. \n\n[[Faerie Mastermind]] is super flexible card advantage that can be triggered with Red Death that will help us keep up with the tables extra draw"},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"[[Curse of Verbosity]] will help us draw cards while also encouraging attacks plus its under the radar enough for people to not want to waste removal on"},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"[[Keep Watch]] drawing us a card for each attacking creature can be absolutely devastating in the right situations. Since we are encouraging attacking anyway, this is a great way to refill your hand or catch up to the table after you've goaded and given away all that card draw. One of my favorite spells in this deck by far."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"[[Windfall]] does so much heavy lifting in this deck. We can use it as a way to catchup to the table if we fall behind, but can also be weaponized against our opponents by making them discard all of the cards that we let them draw in the first place and even overfilling our hands."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"[[Mind's Eye]] and Red Death work together really well. RD will make opponents draw and give us the mana to pay for the Mind's Eye trigger to allow us to draw.
