Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Update: I'm retiring this deck to reconfigure it under Hearthhull, The Worldseed. This has been my favorite deck for a long time as it works so well together but no matter how much I pull the power level down, it still has a tendency towards long, solitaire feeling, turns that don't feel fun. I may update it more in the future as I see new cards that I think would be good for it but if there are things that seem like should be in it after 2025 that aren't, this is why. I also made a new testing category. I put all the cards I would be most willing to switch out here in case you are looking for cuts in the future. \n\nThis deck is based off of the list presented in this thread: https://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/commander-edh/multiplayer-commander-decklists/686151-the-gitrog-monster-non-combo-infinite-value?page=2\n\nIt has been reduced in power from that list though with the goal of having less long turns, more interaction, and overall being more friendly to play with. It is still a strong, 6/7 out of 10, deck but it can get outpaced early on and is much less consistent (I don't use unconditional tutors). This is by far my favorite deck, the synergy between the cards is extremely good, Gitrog can draw a tremendous amount of cards, and you have some of the best interaction in the game. Gitrog does have a reputation as a highly competitive combo commander so you may get targeted because of that. \n\nCard Choices\n\nRamp\n\nTutors\n\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Crop Rotation"}},{"insert":" - One of the best cards in the deck. Instant speed lets you Bojuka Bog in response to shenanigans, put Glacial Chasm into play to save yourself, Phyrexian Tower to sacrifice a creature before it gets stolen or to trigger an ability (World Shaper) or many, many other things. \n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Archdruid's Charm"}},{"insert":" - Can do many of the same tricks as Crop Rotation but limited by the land coming into play tapped. However you get the added versitility of also being a creature tutor, exiling and artifact or enchantment, or dealing damage to a creature. Probably the best green card printed since Heroic Intervention.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Elvish Reclaimer"}},{"insert":" - Testing\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Realms Uncharted"}},{"insert":" - 4 of lands at instant speed is amazing, we love putting lands in the graveyard so it's downside is now an upside. Usually I'm grabbing Cabal Coffer's and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth or Dark Depths and Thespian's Stage. In addition, Dakmor Salvage, a fetchland, and Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth are pretty common targets.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Scapeshift"}},{"insert":" - The most unique tutor on the list, good mid game to set us up with Coffer's + Urborg or lategame to give us a bunch of landfall triggers and/or to fill our graveyard with lands before playing a Splendid Reclamation.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Chord of Calling"}},{"insert":" - I love instant speed, the ability to use your creatures to help pay for it is just a bonus. Best mid game as a board building or tricksy card or late game to grab a finisher (Avenger of Zendikar) and then swing out the next turn.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Green Sun's Zenith"}},{"insert":" - Mainly here for it's ability to get a 1 mana Dryad Arbor. At 2 mana you can get Elvish Reclaimer\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Rushed Rebirth"}},{"insert":" - Testing\n\nThere are innumerable other tutors that could go in here. Adding more powers up the list, removing them powers it down. I got for ones that are most synergistic, instant speed, and/or unique. \n\nRemoval\n\nAssassin's Trophy - Simple solid single target permanent removal. I do wish it could hit our own stuff (World Shaper) but for 2 mana it's fine. \nBeast Within - Same as the above but can hit your own stuff, costs 3 mana. \nBoseiju, Who Endures - Great removal, can't be countered, can draw us a card and can be recurred. \nBojuka Bog - Amazing card in this deck, instant speed bring it into play, bounce it and play it again, sacrifice it and play it again, bring a land in as a copy of it, etc. Stifle or effects that grant players hexproof/protection are rare but watch out for Teferi's Protection and The One Ring. \nGhost Quarter - Less brutal than Strip Mine but gives us land destruction capability. In a pinch it can also let us draw two cards off of Gitrog and get a landfall trigger. \nBlack Sun's Twilight - I treat this mostly as instant speed reanimation with the bonus of also potentially killing something. This is a card I'm testing. One interesting note, since the reanimation is after the -X/-X is applied and doesn't target you can kill and then reanimate your own creature.\nSkyfisher Spider - This may seem like a strange choice but because it's a creature it's easy for us to tutor or reanimate and it allows us to sacrifice another creature which can be useful (World Shaper. I sucks that it can't sacrifice itself though. Still testing this card but the main alternative would be Alpha Deathclaw at 6 cmc. \nOpposition Agent - Incredible card, use without being mean. Slightly dangerous having in the deck as it really hoses us but worth it to hose other higher power decks that rely on tutors. \nToxic Deluge - One of the best black boardwipes ever printed, gets around indestructible. \nDamnation - A classic and still a goody.\nPernicious Deed - Golgari staple, instant speed boardwipe. Can be mana intensive but allows alot of flexibility and politicking.\nBane of Progress - I've started running this as a fourth boardwipe, currently testing. Gaze of Granite, Terror Tide, and Culling Ritual are also considerations. \n\nRecursion \n\nNoxious Revival - Should be a green staple. Use it to get back anything of yours or as a free graveyard hate or to mess with top deck shenanigans when you are tapped out. \nDryad's Revival - Regrowth for 1 mana more but you get flashback.\nSkullwinder - Another underplayed card. Deathtouch is highly relevant and often you can make it so you don't benefit an opponent. Can also let you put a counterspell or boardwipe back into an opponents hand to keep someone else at the table in check. \nDread Return - Solid spell, not cheap but the flashback ability and cost are both very synergistic with our gameplan. \nTakenuma, Abondoned Mire - Returns to our hand not the battlefield but can also draw two cards and can be recurred, or bounced. Maybe not as powerful as other recursion spells but very synergistic.\nSplendid Reclamation - Mass land reanimation, quintessential to what we are doing.\nWorld Shaper - Mass land reanimation on a creature, even better and why you'll notice a fair amount of my discussing ways to sacrifice this sucker. \nAftermath Analyst - A new entrant in the mass land reanimation game but a welcome one. Can be tutored up as a 2 mana creature, the fact that the ability can be activated at instant speed is sweet, and you don't need a separate sacrifice outlet to do it. Also mills as a bonus.\nLife From the Loam - A truly unique card and in this deck can be an engine in it's own right, in my mind one of the key cards of the deck. \nCrucible of Worlds - One of the quintessential cards of the deck does everything we want\nRamunap Excavator - Same as the above but stapled to a creature so even better\nConduit of Worlds - Solid card although I haven't used the permanent recursion ability yet. \n\nProtection\n\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Heroic Intervention"}},{"insert":" - Catch all protection for 2 mana. Amazing card.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Constant Mists"}},{"insert":" - The buyback cost works well with Gitrog. \n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Glacial Chasm"}},{"insert":" - Clutch card, has saved me countless times and we can easily win around its constraints.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Maze of Ith"}},{"insert":" - Testing\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Tyvar's Stand"}},{"insert":" - Testing: Can save a critical creature for 1 or can help end the game via commander damage or with Jarad.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Sylvan Safekeeper"}},{"insert":" - The only repeatable land sacrifice outlet left in the deck. Better late game but an amazing card. Little dangerous as it can let you get into really long turns when combined with Gitrog card draw and mass land reanimation.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Lightning Greaves"}},{"insert":" - Classic but a goody. \n\nUtility Lands\n\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Dryad Arbor"}},{"insert":" - Mainly here to be early ramp off of Green Sun's Zenith. Can be a surprise blocker or sacrifice fodder as well.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Golgari Rot Farm"}},{"insert":" - Can bounce a land with an ETB, channel land, or at instant speed to protect a land that would otherwise be destroyed. \n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth"}},{"insert":" - Great with all our lands that tap for colorless or nothing, not to mention fetches when we run out of fetchable lands. \n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Vesuva"}},{"insert":" - What's better than one Cabal Coffer's?\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Dakmor Salvage"}},{"insert":" - Best card in the deck\nMadara - Can protect something, foil an enchant or equip, stop a combo, etc. \n\nWincons\n\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Avenger of Zendikar"}},{"insert":" - Landfall finisher staple. In this deck it can easily close out a game if it's not addressed. \n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Titania, Protector of Argoth"}},{"insert":" - An absolute house in this deck. We love sacrificing lands and Titania loves making us 5/3's. when we do. The land reanimation we has is just icing on the cake.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord"}},{"insert":" - My most common finisher because usually it's impossible to stop. Get Marit Lage, Multani, or a big Ob Nixilis, drop Jarad, game over. \n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Ob Nixilis, the Fallen"}},{"insert":" - Drains people and becomes huge. Can takeout the main threat, swing in and take out someone without blockers with about 10 land drops.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Thespian's Stage"}},{"insert":" + "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Dark Depths"}},{"insert":" - A 20/20 flyer with indestructible is hard to handle, especially one you can repeatedly make.\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Dread Presence"}},{"insert":" - Maybe not a wincon but can quickly dominate games.
