Description

{"ops":[{"insert":"Formats and Legality:\nThis was built well before Premodern was a thing. Well, a thing as a format, at least...living in pre-Modern times. Premodern (the format) has some nonsense restrictions where cards in the original casual build needed to be removed to make it legal. For the original configuration:\nSwap 1x Elvish Scrapper out for Maze of Ith (Scalpelexis was actually the driver behind a sideboard Maze of Ith, because RFG effects are nasty)."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Swap 1x Skyshroud Ranger out for Savaen Elves (This was actually relevant...Sea's Claim or Evil Presence + appropriate landwalk was a strategy in my local casual meta at the time, which ended up soft-killing Wirewood Lodge)."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Swap 1x Quirion Ranger for Pendelhaven (Pyroclasm was a problem, and Pendelhaven can save a Priest of Titania to help your post-sweeper recovery. It's also a land that makes green mana, which can be independently relevant)."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nNote on card versions:\nWhat's listed is what I have and use. You absolutely don't need Beta Llanowar Elves or a Legends Concordant Crossroads to make it work. Of course, decks with white-bordered cards are never as cool as those that are only black-bordered (because I--like most people that play stuff from this era--am a rabid cultist that cares about such things), but you do what you can with what you have, and if you want to build something similar, it can be done for much, much less than the ticket price."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nGeneral Concept:\nElves doing what elves do, which is to generate piles of mana and vomit permanents all over the board. Priest of Titania is the mana-generation key, but the deck is really about the untapping functionality in Seeker of Skybreak and Wirewood Lodge; point it at Priest of Titania, and you have mana everywhere. Point it at Wellwisher, and you're racing life to amusingly high, yet non-infinite amounts. There's a Living Wish package to find situationally-fun options or answers, and there's some recursion built in too....In reponse to a creature sweeper, you float a huge amount of green, then after the sweeper resolves, you shove it all through Call of the Wild to dump stuff back into play (the Gaea's Blessing keeps you good on the mill side of things, as long as you don't let both of them get into the graveyard at the same time). The weaknesses are the same as most elf decks...you hit Priest of Titania immediately to slow it down, keep the draw outlets (Call of the Wild, Recycle, and Slate of Ancestry) off the field, and the deck will stall out. Be careful with Recycle, because you can get locked out of turn-based card draw."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\n...But why don't you run more Heedless Ones and more efficient ways to win?\nWell, the point of this deck isn't to win efficiently...it's to be amusing and quickly dump piles of nontoken permanents onto the field (green doing green things). That isn't to say there aren't wincons? There is an array of 1-of options like Coat of Arms, Living Wish for Argothian Elder (for infinite combo), Heedless One, dump mana into a huge Hurricane, Biorhythm with no or few creatures out, etc., but the wincons are more of an afterthought to bring the game to a conclusion in an amusing manner. Casual, largely. Getting run over by quick/efficient aggro isn't memorable."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\n...What's up with the Tornado?\nC'mon man, what other deck is better positioned to use Tornado than this one? Priest of Titania floods you with mana, Wellwisher floods you with life, and Seedborn Muse makes it easy to activate Tornado once a turn. I like the amusing mini-game of racing Tornado damage against Wellwisher life gain. Optimizing bad cards is fun. Let me live my life."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"}]}
