Often the most important, large swings in power can happen here as false threats emerge early as archenemy and are taken down.\n\nThese numbers are subject to change with further playtesting and are all subjective based on my experiences and feelings at the time of writing (except the cmc and total).\n\n0 cmc\n\n- Tormod's Crypt\n1. Late game: \nThe shiniest of zones. All of your value engines are in place, you don't require your opponents to trigger it, but they still do, often. You can often trigger it yourself with the large amount of instant removal/counters in the deck. You simultaneously control your opponents and ramp and draw yourself multiple times in a turn rotation.\nScore: 9\n\n4. Synergy:\nThis synergises with the deck pretty great! Gets a high score, creates lots of tokens and does so by playing lots of spells. The only way that I would have scored this a 10/10 is if it had some way to make tokens on etb. There is a decent chance that the card does literally nothing if noone plays two spells a turn. Lotho is also on a body and therefore can also die to trigger drain effects if it is needed, or help close out a game with another wincon - Revel in Riches.\nScore: 9\n\n5. Enjoyment: \nI enjoy playing cards, making treasures and drawing cards. Three things this card does well in the deck, so it scores above average. It loses out on peak enjoyment as I do have to fiddle with my life counter often, keep track of a repeating trigger and its not exactly a 'flashy' or 'exciting' spell. It doesn't do anything unexpected, wacky etc. But it does help enable the rest of the deck and I enjoy calling him the tax man.\nScore: 7\n\n6. Behind: \nI am very happy to see this card when behind. Only 2 cmc means very likely to be castable. Triggers extra ramp and colour fixing and draw (marneus) off other people being ahead and playing the game. It can quickly catch you up.\nScore: 9\n\n7. Neutral:\nNow this had the highest score. I am never upset to see this card as Lotho is perfect when everyone is even. It provides an opportunity to draw (Marneus) heavily as you will be able to trigger its ability and it provides burst ramp. This can catapult you into a leading and game winning position.\nScore: 10\n\n8. Winning:\nDespite when winning I am likely able to take advantage of the ability to trigger this card myself. It does nothing to actually close out the game, hence why it has scored lower than the neutral position. The draw (Marneus) and ramp it provides can help find you those necessary game ending cards however, so it still has a high score.\nScore: 8\n\n9. Mana Value:\nCMC 2 \nScore: 8\n\n10. Total and summary:\nLotho is a perfect card for any Marneus Calgar deck. Providing amazing ramp opportunities and card draw. The potential to be able to take you from losing the game to a strong board position with just a couple of turn rotations is incredible. For only 2 CMC this card is a surefire include and excels at many categories, synergises well and is viable in most stages of the game. Highly recommend.\nScore: 8.1\n\n3 cmc\n\n- Toxic Deluge\n1. As such I will be making the deck more focused on this going forward.\n- Swapped Cathars Crusade with Cruel Celebrant.\nReason: Making the change to aristocrats. Often found I was paying more life than I could sustain. The life gain from celebrant hopefully keeps me alive. Also death trigger redundancy. I rarely make enough creatures in one go to benefit from Cathars.\n- Swapped Felidar Retreat with Farewell. \nReason: Retreat was too slow oftentimes, under performing when playing only 1-2 lands per turn at most. The artifact and enchantment removal will hopefully come in handy as it has been a repeated weak point of the deck so far.\n\n04/06/23\nDeck Edits:\n- Swapped Starlight Spectacular with Monastery Mentor.\nReason: Moving away from swing big strategy to become more focussed. Mentor can create insane value with attackers,\nblockers, sacrifice fodder and token related card draw with Marneus. Cheaper cmc.\n\n21/06/23\nDeck Edits: \n- Swapped Rotten Reunion with Prince Imrahil the Fair. \nReason: There has been less need for grave hate while travelling around. Can be a dead card often. High hopes for imrahil being a 2 mana repeatable card draw and token generator.\n\n23/06/23\nDeck Edits:\n- Swapped Elspeth Knight Errant with Jadar Ghoulcaller. 4 mana token maker with Elspeth, vs 2 mana token maker with Jadar. Easy swap.\n\n19/07/23\nDeck Edits:\n- Swapped Drivnod, Carnage Dominus with Teysa Karlov. Teysa is 1 mana cheaper for the same effect, plus gives vigilance and lifelink to tokens.\nDrivnod's indestructible was a non-clause, there are too few creatures in the deck to be worth it. Often dont have 3 creatures in the Graveyard. Honestly am sad though, because Drivnod looks dope as.\n\n30/07/23\nDeck Edits: \n- Swapped Commander's Sphere with Lotho, Corrupt Shirrif. Trying to keep ramp to less than 3 mana. Especially mana rock related ramp. Lotho synergises more with the game-plan by creating tokens. With Marneus on the field, each trigger will be a treasure AND a card. I also have plenty of instant spells and should be able to trigger Lotho myself frequently. Will hopefully work well with Thalisse\n\n29/8/23\nDeck Edits:\n- Swapped a Swamp with Barad-dur. Almost functionally the same. for {B} and {Tap} I can make a 0/0 army that dies on entering, drawing a card and triggering death triggers. It won me a game the same night I put it in the deck, drew it three times and it never entered tapped. Excellent inclusion.\n\n\n\n"}]}
