Description
{"ops":[{"insert":" Grothama may seem like a dangerous card to have as a commander. After all, do we really want to risk our opponents drawing cards if we arent playing group hug. \n\nFortunately its not too difficult to prevent our opponents from killing our commander.\n\nFirst of all we dont just want to let our wurm flop out onto the table. We need to set the mood first. Asceticism, Temur Sabretooth, and Medicine bag can help keep it up. While Vivien Champion of the wilds lets us cast the wurm right before our turn.\n Fighting Grothama is already an unattractive proposition, but Basilisk collar and shadowspear make it so much worse with lifelink. \n\nOf course once its on the battlefield we want to damage it ourselves. Attacking with big creatures is the most readily available way to do this, but we can also use our fight effects for this if we dont need to hit a creature. Of particular note among these cards are combo attack and Spinning wheel kick. Because there are two separate instances of the word target on the cards and they don't specify they have to target another creature, you can use these to have Grothama fight itself. Along the same lines, the aura predatory urge will let Grothama damage itself twice. Since state based effects arent checked till the ability is done resolving you can draw 20 cards doing this absent any other effects. We're also making use of Garruk, primal hunter, rishkar's expertise, and return of the wildspeaker to draw off Grothama's generous power as well as that of some of the giant beaters in the deck. This pornographic card draw is why we have Ulamog, the infinite gyre in the deck so we dont draw out.\n\nBecause we're likely to kill our commander multiple times in a game, we have a ton of ramp. Getting extra land plays is key since we can draw so many cards. \n\nTo finish games we have a lot of the usual stompy suspects like Overwhelming stampede and Finale of Devastation. These can turn a game quickly if we managed to develop tokens beforehand by fighting, broodhatch nantuko, sabre ants, or a creature enchanted with Druid's call. Vigor leverages Grothama's fight ability to pump the team. If we dont want to do combat, stuffy doll can fight our commander to dome one opponent, or we can use psychosis crawler to weaponize our card draw.\n"}]}
