Description
{"ops":[{"insert":{"video":"https://www.youtube.com/embed/U0SV68Ur6sw?showinfo=0"}},{"insert":"\nOkay, seriously now.\n\nThis deck started out with the intention to build as hard into [[Totentanz, Swarm Piper]]'s abilities as possible. The original plan was to play a bunch of creatures that wanted to die as frontline blockers, swing in with the rats he generated, and hold up mana to make every rat a potentially lethal threat to any blockers. In my experience everyone who isn't a token player gets nervous at the thought that chump blocking anything I throw at them could lose them the creature, which means more often than not the rats are just...let through. What's three damage? Six? Eight? They keep their stuff, so it's not a huge loss, right?\nThe immediate problem was also the most obvious: winning with 1/1 chip damage when you're not spamming out ninety of the things in Selesnya is "},{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"hard."},{"insert":" 120 life and i have to whittle it all down with a handful of rats? Not happening. Not to mention lifegain and token decks (the aforementioned Selesnya, naturally) just laugh and either scrap my entire offensive force at no cost, or eat the damage and make it irrelevant.\nIt was while sifting through my collection that I realized the cards i was pulling out made their own gameplan instead, which made Totentanz not only no longer a central (and removable) cornerstone of the deck but instead a consistently-available enabler, but "},{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"also"},{"insert":" gave me a solid way to win.\nThis is the result: a Rakdos aggro/aristocrats blend, focused on using offensive creatures that my opponents will either want to or NEED to remove because of the threat they pose, and pairing them with a suite of both [[Blood Artist]] effects and Totentanz-alikes to generate replacement tokens and lifedrain value. [[Tainted Remedy]] and [[Sulfuric Vortex]] both shut off lifegain decks, the focus on aggressive value creatures that are intended to die means that wipes to stall out the token player are not only viable but can come out with me "},{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"ahead"},{"insert":", and aside from the standard \"beat everyone to death\" win condition of Rakdos aggro, we also have [[Quest for Pure Flame]] as an emergency damage doubler for a turn to close out a win (or make our [[Blasphemous Act]] actually sweep the green stompy deck's field), and [[Revel in Riches]] functions as both a convenient ramp piece to fuel Totentanz activations and a win condition on its own. [[Warlock Class]] at max level makes our aggro strategy much more dangerous (and pairs delightfully with the Quest), while incidental chip damage from cards like [[Iridescent Vinelasher]] and [[Tectonic Giant]] helps speed along our gameplan. The delightful pairing of [[Laurine, the Diversion]] and [[Kamber, the Plunderer]] gives us a sacrifice outlet for Totentanz, a goad effect to keep dangerous creatures aimed away (and tapped on our turn), and bonus lifegain on top!\nAlso, yes, [[Maskwood Nexus]] is literally just here as a treat to turn the whole deck into rats for Totentanz. As a funny bonus, it also makes everything Pests for [[Blight Mound]].\n"}]}
