{"ops":[{"insert":"Shredded\n\nWhy everything is useful on the way out\n\nSuper Shredder gets a +1/+1 counter whenever another permanent leaves the battlefield. Not dies—leaves. My token getting sacrificed counts. An opponent’s permanent being bounced counts. A Treasure disappearing counts. A board wipe can turn Shredder into the largest surviving problem, assuming he survives it. The deck exploits that breadth with disposable bodies, sacrifice outlets, death value, and enough equipment to make a very large creature with menace difficult to ignore.\n\nThis is not pure commander-damage Voltron and it is not aristocrats solitaire. It is mono-black sacrifice midrange with a commander who converts ordinary transactions into pressure. The best games move among all three roles: Shredder threatens combat, the sacrifice engine generates material, and the drain creatures punish anyone who tries to solve the board wholesale.\n\nThe word leaves is what makes the deck. It takes all the ordinary churn of Commander—Treasures cracking, tokens being sacrificed, creatures being bounced, permanents disappearing in a wipe—and turns it into a continuous origin story for one increasingly unreasonable mutant. I wanted the deck to feel active even when it is not attacking. Something is always being exchanged, recycled, or fed into the machinery, and Shredder keeps the receipt.\n\nStarting with something to shred\n\nMana is the first test. The deck has only a small conventional ramp package, so I want three lands and either Sol Ring, Mind Stone, Crypt Ghast, The Soul Stone, or an early draw engine. Cabal Coffers without Urborg or enough Swamps is not an opening strategy. Black Market Connections, Skullclamp, Darkstar Augur, Bitterblossom, Ophiomancer, Jadar, or Reassembling Skeleton make otherwise modest hands functional because they produce something useful every turn.\n\nSuper Shredder costs only two, but casting him immediately is not always correct. If there is no permanent about to leave and no protection available, he is simply the table’s advance notice. A token maker or sacrifice outlet first often means the commander arrives and grows in the same turn.\n\nThe sacrifice economy\n\nOphiomancer, Jadar, Bitterblossom, Bitterbloom Bearer, Nine-Lives Familiar, Reassembling Skeleton, and The Sackville-Bagginses supply repeatable material. Viscera Seer, Spawning Pit, Braids, Skullclamp, Phyrexian Tower, High Market, Corrupted Conviction, Deadly Dispute, Fain, and Diabolic Intent convert that material into cards, mana, selection, or tutoring. Every permanent that leaves also grows Shredder, so the deck is paid twice for transactions it already wanted.\n\nThe timing is usually more important than the raw number of counters. Hold a token when it can turn on Ophiomancer during the next upkeep. Sacrifice a threatened creature rather than let it be exiled. Use Viscera Seer before a Bolas’s Citadel sequence. Preserve a free outlet when Junji, Kokusho, Rottenmouth Viper, or a stolen creature needs to die on demand.\n\nPitiless Plunderer is the mana engine. The Ozolith preserves Shredder’s accumulated counters when removal finally lands. Retribution of the Ancients converts counters into creature control, which is useful precisely because Shredder tends to accumulate more power than combat requires. Maha makes small negative modifiers lethal, and The Meathook Massacre turns a reset into a substantial life swing.\n\nThis is the part of the deck I enjoy most. The pieces do not wait politely for one specific partner. Skullclamp wants the same expendable body that Plunderer wants, which is the same body Braids can tax, which is the same departure that grows Shredder and triggers the drain package. The board feels interconnected without becoming a single brittle combo. If one route is closed, the material can usually be spent somewhere else.\n\nThe finishing mutation\n\nA large menace commander wearing Brotherhood Regalia, Commander's Plate, Silver Shroud Costume, Sting, Umezawa’s Jitte, or Shadowspear is the direct route. Secret Tunnel and Shizo can make that route less theoretical. Shredder, Shadow Master adds another combat payoff without requiring the entire deck to become equipment-focused.\n\nThe noncombat route is repeated Kokusho and Gray Merchant life swings, Meathook triggers, Rottenmouth Viper pressure, and sacrifice value opponents can no longer race. Saw in Half is especially flexible: it can double an enter/death payoff, protect value from exile by changing the object, or create additional permanents whose eventual departure grows the commander again.\n\nI do not want the deck to spend an hour proving that it can grind. Once Shredder is enormous, he should attack. Once Kokusho or Gray Merchant can create a decisive swing, they should be used. The sacrifice engine is there to make the ending resilient, not to replace the ending with bookkeeping.\n\nThe warning label\n\nExile is the clean answer to nearly every recursive piece. Graveyard hate reduces Phyrexian Reclamation, Unearth, Skeleton, Kokusho, Junji, and Takenuma to fair cards. Token hate and Rest in Peace effects therefore deserve removal before splashier threats. The deck can also spend life aggressively through Black Market Connections, Citadel, Toxic Deluge, and various draw effects; Witch’s Clinic and Shadowspear are not decorative.\n\nBolas’s Citadel is the one Game Changer. The deck has tutors and powerful sacrifice synergies, but no intentional infinite. This is a strong Bracket 3 grind deck that can kill with commander damage; it is not trying to race cEDH or stop the table from playing. It just intends to be paid whenever anybody makes something leave.\n\n"}]}
