{"ops":[{"insert":"The premise of the deck is threefold. With [[Giott, King of the Dwarves]] at the helm, you want to discard and cycle through Dwarves and Equipment, use the graveyard as a second hand, and repeatedly reforge those resources into threats and answers.\n\nUnlike a traditional Equipment deck, losing your weapons isn't necessarily a setback. Equipment gets discarded, sacrificed, destroyed, and eventually brought right back. The deck wins through repeated combat pressure and resource advantage while using recursion and the [[Sunforger]] package to make your board incredibly difficult to interact with profitably.\n\nThe graveyard isn't where our cards go to die. It's where they wait for their next shift.\n\n\n**Main Playline** :\n\n* -Your first priority is getting [[Giott, King of the Dwarves]] onto the battlefield and giving yourself enough Dwarves and Equipment to start triggering his draw and discard engine. Don't be afraid to discard good cards. In this deck, putting the right card into the graveyard can be just as valuable as keeping it in your hand.\n* -[[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]] and [[Monument to Endurance]] are two of the best cards to see in your opening hand. Magda rewards the attacking you already want to do with Treasure and eventually tutoring, while Monument rewards all of the discarding Giott naturally creates.\n* -Cheap Equipment like [[Beamtown Beatstick]], [[Dowsing Dagger]], and [[Sword of Hearth and Home]] help develop your mana while giving your Dwarves weapons to carry. Later, Equipment you don't need becomes excellent discard fodder because you have multiple ways to recover it.\n* -Once the graveyard starts filling, look for cards like [[Forge Anew]], [[Sevinne's Reclamation]], [[Brought Back]], [[One Last Job]], and [[Faith's Reward]]. The goal isn't simply to recur one valuable permanent. You want resources constantly moving into and out of the graveyard while Giott keeps your hand moving.\n\n\n**Reforging the Graveyard** :\n\nThe graveyard is the core resource engine of the deck. You're intentionally putting cards there through Giott, looting effects, combat, sacrifice, and normal interaction from your opponents.\n\n* -[[Quintorius, History Chaser]] is one of the deck's most important graveyard payoffs because cards leaving your graveyard now generate additional value. Recurring an Equipment is no longer just getting your Equipment back, it's advancing another engine at the same time.\n* -Flashback is especially useful because it lets you extract value from the same card multiple times. [[Faithless Looting]] helps stock the graveyard, can later be cast from it, and then leaving the graveyard can trigger your payoffs.\n* -[[Daretti, Scrap Savant]] helps filter your hand, puts artifacts where you don't mind having them, and gives you another route for recycling important artifacts.\n* -Don't automatically protect everything. One of the strengths of Ashes of Axes is resilience. Sometimes allowing an Equipment or creature to die is better than spending a resource protecting it when you already have a way to bring it back.\n\nThis makes board wipes much less devastating than they are for traditional Voltron or Equipment decks. Rebuilding isn't the backup plan. Rebuilding is part of the plan.\n\n\n**The Sunforger Toolbox** :\n\n[[Sunforger]] is one of the most important cards in the deck and dramatically changes how you should play once it's on the battlefield.\n\n* -Need protection? [[Boros Charm]].\n* -Need removal? [[Get Lost]].\n* -Need to survive the turn? [[Angel's Grace]].\n* -Need to recover after a board wipe? [[Faith's Reward]].\n* -Need to buy yourself another turn? [[Reprieve]].\n* -[[Magnetic Theft]] creates some of the strangest and best Sunforger lines in the deck by letting you attach Equipment at instant speed.\n\n[[Masterwork of Ingenuity]] can enter as a copy of [[Sunforger]], giving you access to two Sunforgers at once. This creates play patterns where opponents successfully navigate the first activation only to discover you still have another answer waiting.\n\nRemember that Sunforger is also an artifact in a graveyard recursion deck. If opponents destroy it, don't panic.\n\nReforge it.\n\n\n**The Craftsmen** :\n\nThis isn't traditional Dwarf tribal. You don't need twenty Dwarves on the battlefield to make the deck function. The Dwarves are craftsmen, and each one has a job.\n\n* -[[Bruenor Battlehammer]] makes Equipment much easier to move around and turns your equipped creatures into legitimate threats.\n* -[[Restoration Specialist]] gives you another way to recover important artifacts and enchantments while contributing a Dwarf body for Giott.\n* -[[Hofri Ghostforge]] is one of the deck's best resilience pieces. Your creatures can die, generate Spirits, continue fighting, and eventually return to your hand. He makes already uncomfortable board wipes even more awkward for opponents.\n* -[[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]] is one of the deck's strongest engines. Treasure accelerates the deck while her tutor ability can eventually find the artifact you need to move toward a winning position.\n\nYou don't need every Dwarf to survive. You need them to do their job.\n\n\n**How the Deck Wins** :\n\nAshes of Axes isn't trying to assemble one deterministic combo. It's a pressure and attrition deck.\n\n* -Equipment turns otherwise unassuming Dwarves into legitimate threats.\n* -Sword triggers generate value while pushing damage through.\n* -Double strike effects make equipped creatures lethal surprisingly quickly.\n* -[[Sunforger]] lets you control combat while protecting the board you've assembled.\n* -Spread Equipment across multiple creatures when possible instead of building one enormous Voltron threat. This makes the deck harder to shut down with a single removal spell and lets several Dwarves generate value simultaneously.\n\nThe goal is to repeatedly ask your opponents the same question:\n\n\"Do you have another answer?\"\n\nIf they destroy your creature, recur it.\n\nIf they destroy your Equipment, reforge it.\n\nIf they wipe the board, rebuild.\n\nEventually, somebody runs out of answers.\n\n\n**Important Cards**\n\n[[Giott, King of the Dwarves]] : The engine of the deck. Giott keeps your hand moving and turns every Dwarf and Equipment entering the battlefield into an opportunity to improve your hand while stocking your graveyard.\n\n[[Sunforger]] : The crown jewel. It turns open mana into uncertainty for the entire table and gives you access to protection, removal, recursion, and interaction exactly when you need it.\n\n[[Monument to Endurance]] : One of the best early engines in the deck. You're already discarding cards, so Monument simply pays you for doing what Giott wants to do.\n\n[[Magda, Brazen Outlaw]] : Ramp, Treasure generation, and eventually tutoring. One of the strongest cards to see in your opening hand.\n\n[[Quintorius, History Chaser]] : Turns the other half of your graveyard strategy into value by rewarding cards for leaving the graveyard.\n\n[[Hofri Ghostforge]] : Resilience and pressure in one card. Particularly useful when opponents are relying on creature removal or board wipes to slow you down.\n\n[[Masterwork of Ingenuity]] : Flexible normally, ridiculous when it becomes a second [[Sunforger]].\n\n[[Faith's Reward]] : Don't underestimate this card. With the right board state, an opponent's board wipe can become substantially better for you than it was for them, especially when Sunforger can find it.\n\n\n**The Hobbit Upgrades** :\n\nThe deck got a serious boost with The Hobbit. Dwarves, Equipment, and artifact support are exactly what Giott wants, which means there are now plenty of legitimate swaps depending on how heavily you want to lean into the Dwarf side of the deck.\n\n* -[[Bofur, Reliable Guardian]] is one of my favorite additions because his Adventure can protect an important artifact or creature, and then Bofur himself becomes another Dwarf for Giott.\n* -[[Fíli the Pathfinder]] rewards having an enduring story while helping develop additional Dwarf bodies.\n* -[[Dwarven Shortsword]] fits naturally into the Equipment plan and gives the deck another weapon to cycle through the forge.\n\nThe important thing isn't cramming every new Dwarf into the list. Giott rewards quality over quantity. Look for Dwarves that perform another job the deck already needs.\n\n\n**Tokens to Keep With the Deck** :\n\nKeep your tokens ready before the game starts. Ashes of Axes can create several different game pieces, and having the correct tokens available makes complicated turns much easier to track.\n\n* -Treasure\n* -Map\n* -Dwarf Berserker\n* -Plant\n* -Spirit\n* -Copy tokens\n* -Any emblems required by the current list\n\nAshes of Axes can create complicated board states. Clearly representing Treasures, Spirits, Equipment, and copied permanents makes your turn easier for both you and the rest of the table.\n\n\n**Final Notes**\n\nThis deck is for players who enjoy decision-heavy Commander.\n\nYour best play isn't always obvious. Sometimes you're choosing between attacking, looting, recurring something, holding up [[Sunforger]], or intentionally putting one of your strongest cards into the graveyard.\n\nThat's also why the deck has so much replayability.\n\nOne game [[Sunforger]] controls the table.\n\nAnother game [[Hofri Ghostforge]] makes your board incredibly difficult to permanently remove.\n\nAnother game Giott and [[Monument to Endurance]] let you churn through the deck until you assemble exactly the resources you need.\n\nIf you want straightforward Boros, equip the biggest creature and attack, there are commanders that do that better.\n\nAshes of Axes is for the player who wants to work the forge.\n\nDiscard the weapon.\n\nBreak the weapon.\n\nReforge the weapon.\n\nAnd when your opponents finally think they've destroyed everything that matters...\n\nPick up the hammer and build it again.\n"}]}
