Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Forty CAD max spend, not including shipping or tax was the challenge. Personal bulk allowed.\n\nI decided to make a stompy deck that's easy to pilot. Reason being, I have lots of friends who are wanting to learn magic, and instead of buying a starter pack that everybody has or knows, I thought it would be even MORE fun to have something a brew.\n\nMind you - this brew is not hugely unique. \n\nI've been wanting to make a Alena and Halana partners deck for a while now. Ever since I saw an archidek brew named \"Lesbians for the Win\"\n"},{"attributes":{"link":"https://archidekt.com/decks/1715799/lesbians_for_the_win"},"insert":"https://archidekt.com/decks/1715799/lesbians_for_the_win"},{"insert":"\n\nBut after the uphill climb it took to make my Wernog/Othelm deck, I decided to go with partners that had better synergy. Despite the lack of sexual tension. "},{"attributes":{"link":"https://archidekt.com/decks/25078482/rumours_of_dreadwood_v2"},"insert":"https://archidekt.com/decks/25078482/rumours_of_dreadwood_v2"},{"insert":" \n\nGilanra is Alena's most popular pairing, and I can see why! They offer something very appealing: shit tons of ramp. Eternal ramp! They are in the command zone and can keep coming back all day. \n\nThis was a great way to work in some of that extra bulk I had lying around -- those 6 cost giants that were too clunky for my other decks. \n\nWhen building v1 of this, I focussed on ramp and draw. A silly amount of basic land. I just really wanted a solid base, but I can imagine pulling back on some of that down the road and bring more reach/ trample/finishers into the mix. \n\nI also see allot of people adding the cycling mechanic. So I'll consider doing so in the future. \n\nTo stay on budget I generally went with cheap and available cards,-- except there was 2 cards I really wanted which \"expensive\" (over 8 CAD). I knew I could only choose one, or else I would breach the 40$ limit. It was between Radagast of Rhosgobel and Soul of the Harvest. "},{"attributes":{"header":3},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nHard choice, because Soul just has amazing art, and does a simple thing I knew would be satisfying: let's you draw whenever a non-token creature enters. But I went with Radagast, because it's the new shiny thing, AND it does something different than pretty much any other card in the deck. Let you play creatures with haste! Well that only seems fun, since I don't have /much/ else interaction at the table. \n\nFuture version ideas: More dragons approaches. More interaction. More creatures (try to fold sorcery/instant effects into creature cards). More haste. Try Helena as a partner. Try not to spend more money on this guy, and keep it to things I find etc. \n\n\n"}]}
