Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Phoenixes are one of the coolest mythological animals. Not only are they elegant and awesome fiery birds, but they also represent ideals of rebirth and resurgence across a plethora of fantasy settings. I have always wanted to make Phoenix's work, but there is just one problem...\n\nThey are sadly not a good tribe.\n\nPhoenixes have some pros: most if not all of their cards capture their aesthetic for coming back after death and rising from the ashes. They also fly and hit for a decent-ish amount. However, these sizzling-hot sky-swoopers usually require a lot of mana investment to both cast and then replay over and over, and then they also don't have a lot of support. There are a couple cards - "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Syrix, Carrier of the Flame"}},{"insert":" is the WOTC-published Phoenix commander and does let you dish out some burn damage when your Phoenixes rise again, and a lot of players forget that "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Everquill Phoenix"}},{"insert":" can supply a Feather token if it successfully mutates, which automatically resurrects any Phoenix we need. That is sadly it for the tribe though. You could run some generic tribal support cards as well like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Vanquisher's Banner"}},{"insert":" or "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Herald's Horn"}},{"insert":" , but a lot of these care about specifically casting your type, which with Phoenixes being a rare-ish type, this can end up being a high mana investment for something that happens maybe three times in a game if you are lucky. Because of all this and most Phoenixes basically being their own engine for life and death, Phoenixes tend to underperform except for when Syrix is able to occassionally pop off every now and again. \n\nHowever, I have recently taken a liking to "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Chainer, Nightmare Adept"}},{"insert":" as a Phoenix commander. Chainer is already a Rakdos reanimator guy who lets you discard a card to cast a creature from your graveyard, and he also conveniently gives that Phoenix haste in case it doesn't have it so it can immediately attack in the air. Chainer's cost of discarding is useful in SO many ways - we can discard Phoenixes that to cast later to his ability or return to our hand/battlefield with their own in built ability. Not only does this help Phoenixes perform in their aesthetical way, but utilizing discard and \"leave the graveyard\" centered effects like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Teval's Judgment"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Monument to Endurance"}},{"insert":" help our fiery friends along with their self-sufficient engines!
