Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"I typically don't like tribal decks because of their repetitive nature, however, when you can use a tribe to do cool things is where it gets interesting. Few creature types have their own unique ability, which includes walls with defender, scepters with discard on damage, illusions sac on target, etc. The type I chose to build on are Shades. Shades have the unique ability of B: +1/+1 until end of turn. So I made a deck with 21 of said shades (thanks to errata for creature types they are all shades) with ways of abusing their respective mechanic. The commander I chose is which is "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Tazri, Stalwart Survivor"}},{"insert":" as it lets all my creatures pay for activations, and later on in the game get my shades with her activated ability.\nThe main combo line of the deck is to generate infinite black mana with a variety of land combos like: "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Rings of Brighthearth"}},{"insert":" + "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Deserted Temple"}},{"insert":" / "},{"insert":{"card-link":"The Enigma Jewel // Locus of Enlightenment"}},{"insert":" which can be used to untap lands that tap for large amounts of mana like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Cabal Coffers"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx"}},{"insert":" and"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Cabal Stronghold"}},{"insert":", generating infinite mana. With this mana we make our shades infinitely big.\nNow, this isn't always possible, but we still want to generate a lot of black mana. Hence, we run a lot of ramp, lots of ones that gets swamps for our land combos, as well as mana doublers like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Nirkana Revenant"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Crypt Ghast"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Bubbling Muck"}},{"insert":", and obviously many other stereotypical ramp pieces.\nNow, once I have the big shades, whether infinite of not, attacking is not always reliable enough, despite many of them having great evasion like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Whispering Shade"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Undercity Shade"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Dungeon Shade"}},{"insert":" , and many more. Therefore, there are alternate win cons like "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Rite of Consumption"}},{"insert":" , "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord"}},{"insert":" , and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Chandra's Ignition"}},{"insert":" which let you throw shades at people. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Cover of Darkness"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Mask of Griselbrand"}},{"insert":" giving more evasion. Finally, "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Altar of Dementia"}},{"insert":" to just mill people out. Additionally, big creatures also mean big value that can be used with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Return of the Wildspeaker"}},{"insert":" , and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Ruthless Technomancer"}},{"insert":" .\nIn conclusion, Shades are in my opinion an awesome type as they fall out of the normal tribal deck category in which you go wide with lords like in elves, goblins, vampires, dinosaurs, etc. Additionally, Shades don't actually have a real \"shades\" commander, making the selection process much more fun and creative.\n"}]}
