Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Would you like to play a game?\n\nThis deck wants to play a number of games, which makes it fun for the whole table. Every time I’ve played it has led to a memorable moment, and I think that’s the deck’s greatest strength. Here's an upgraded version.\n\nThis is a sphinx kindred deck. Sphynxes are often expensive (mana value), and many of them come with riddle-like minigames attached to their ability and/or contain some reference to riddles in their name. The Seventh Doctor and Clara Oswald synergize with the sphinxes by providing two opportunities to cheat them out each turn, and to do so thematically in a manner that mirrors the riddle of the sphinx. Another synergy between the doctor and sphinx sub-type is that many of the latter are artifact creatures, which count towards the doctor’s ability, making his minigame more challenging.\n\nThere are multiple ways to win. My favourite is cheating out Magister Sphinx and then hitting it with Saw in Half, dropping everyone else to 10. Ideally, you then finish the job with Bolas’s Citadel, but the finisher is still a pipe dream for me. Most sphinxes are beefy flyers, making them a win-con in their own right. Medomai the Ageless gives extra-turns; Inevitable Betrayal is a cheeky way of stealing the best creature from an opponent’s deck; and there are a few one-sided board wipes to take control of the game. There are also alternative ways of avoiding mana cost, like the aforementioned Bolas’s Citadel, Omniscience, and Defiler of Dreams\n\nAnother really fun interaction is playing The Clone Saga on the turn before The Seventh Doctor, giving 4 minigame triggers on the next turn (after you play Clara Oswald and attack). There are a bunch of mana rocks that will hopefully enable this to pop-off before turn six. Given the minigame subtheme of the deck, I’ve stocked it with as many other minigames to compliment those attached to the sphinxes, including Fact or Fiction effects, the Monarch, and Initiative. \n\nOne of my favourite cards in the deck is Reverse the Polarity. It’s my generic target for Waterlogged Teachings if I’m not tutoring Saw in Half. Beyond the Dr. Who flavour, every mode of the spell is useful. If someone is storming off, it counters everything on the stack. It can surprise someone who lets the partner commanders through expecting five damage, giving them a combined power of 12. Or it can make your creatures unblockable, enabling the doctor to swing freely while clearing a path for the sphinxes. \n"}]}
