Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Frolicking in the Loch is a Mono-Blue deck designed around Tolabow, Loch Rascal’s Rulebreaker text— specifically, the ability to add Green instants and sorceries to any deck it heads. By adding green, you gain access to two key aspects of this build— Fogs to prevent opponents from simply swinging out at you, and ramp spells to fix one of Blue’s main weaknesses. \n\nIn particular, this deck was envisioned as a way to make Maze’s End work in Mono Blue. By using Tolabow, you only gain access to instants, sorceries, and basic lands of other colors, so you can’t simply add green to your color identity and thus add enough gates to satisfy Maze’s End on its own, and therefore one needs to get creative in order to resolve the game-winning clause of the card. Thus, two requirements must be met— you have to first copy a Gate, then find a way to change its name. In this case, the choice was made to add Awakening of Vhitu-Ghazi since it is one of the few ways to satisfy this last requirement.\n\nHowever, in order to ensure the deck is still functional, I chose to build a control shell focused on card advantage and disruption, utilizing the best ways to do both in Blue and Green, picking efficient removal spells and a suite of countermagic to ensure the deck can keep the pace of the game where you want it while assembling one of the deck’s gameplans. And by focusing on a control-focused gameplan, it informed the other, more typical finishers for the deck— Blue Sun’s Zenith, Mathemagics, and various mill spells to force the others at the table to draw from an empty deck. And if all of that fails, you can still chain spells to tap down your opponent’s creatures with Junk Winder and then swing with a large board of Otters or other tokens for game.\n"}]}
