Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"This group hug list is largely based on the idea of ending the game as quickly as possible. While you can theoretically win the game with squall line and similar effects, the real objective is getting everyone to the late game immediately, leading to a player overwhelming the table well ahead of schedule. Does this lead to a nice and fair round of magic? Not necessarily, but it will be very fast, and at the end of the day, that's the point.\n\nIf you pod is okay with it, I would recommend that you place yourself 3rd in turn order. Whoever goes directly after you will benefit greatly from your group hug effects, meaning that they are favored by default. Having them be last in turn order helps mitigate that a bit. If this isn't possible, then placing yourself in front of the weakest deck is also a great alternative. Not doing so will lead to repeated blowouts that are pretty underwhelming for everyone involved. Inform your table of what is going down and bring this deck out at the end of the night for a quick game. Few games will go over 40 minutes even at low power levels, there is simply too much ramp and card draw. \n\nCard choices are pretty niche here. Outside of a small handful of exceptions, every card listed is a symmetrical effect or benefits opponents more than you. This does disregard budget though, so cards such as avatar of growth, eureka, yavimaya, urborg, anvil of bogardan and borrowing the east wind are obviously unnecessary for the list, but do make it more fun if you just proxy them out anyway. \n\nThe deck is incredibly straightforward. Ramp to shizuko, ramp some more, spew out absurd amounts of value for you and your opponents, watch the world burn. If you insist on a win condition you can go for helix pinnacle for example. It was not uncommon to reach upwards of 9 mana by turn 4, and on a very unique round I managed to trade veteran explorers turn 2 with another group hug deck, leading to 5 lands in play for everyone at the table. \n\nThere are certainly some cards here that are worth cutting if you wanted to optimize for higher impact over theme:\nOtherworld Atlas is glacially slow, and I have yet to get a charge counter onto it and actually tap it for mana. By the time you can play it the game is probably over in the next turn cycle."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Hypergenesis is also incredibly slow, rarely being cast before the game ends. Its effect is silly enough to be kept though."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Well of knowledge is incredibly inefficient in a way that means most won't bother even using the effect."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Greener Pastures might be the lowest impact 3 drop in history"},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"most of the creatures such as Ghazbán ogre and wild mammoth are very forgettable and could likely be replaced with something a bit more spectacular. They may be played, but in my experience its more for the novelty than actually doing anything useful."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"I have updated the list now to include several massive land ramp effects and a slight improvement to the general playability of the list. It still does the same thing, it should just feel a bit less terrible to play.\n\n"}]}
