Description
{"ops":[{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"Spin Iron Webs -- Add and Remove +1/+1 Counters"},{"insert":"\n\nIron Spider, Stark Upgrade is the head of this colorless theory-crafted Precon. Build up waves of mechanical creatures and vehicles, then swing for massive damage. \n\nIron Spider is a Colorless Legendary Artifact Creature with the Spider Hero type. At 3-mana, Iron Spider comes into play as a 2/3 with Vigilance and two nifty abilities. Iron Spider's first ability is one that has been seen before on the beloved Steel Overseer, though now adding Vehicles to the mix. \n\n"},{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"Tap, Put a +1/+1 counter on each artifact creature and/or Vehicle you control."},{"insert":"\n\nIron Spider's vigilance allows you to attack then tap them to activate their ability before damage is dealt, making them a 3/4 right away and buffing any other artifact creatures you have in play. Alternatively, you could skip activating their ability to keep them untapped during other players' turns for either blocking or crewing Vehicles. \n\nIron Spider's second ability costs 2 mana as well as the removal of two +1/+1 counters from artifacts you control to draw a card. Note that Iron Spider does not need to tap for this ability, meaning that it can be activated after using their first ability given you have enough counters and mana to spare. The counters can come from any artifact you control, including un-crewed vehicles. Having access to card draw in the command zone gives our deck the gas it needs to replace any artifact creatures we lose during combat.\n\nHow can we take advantage of the tools Iron Spider gives us?\n\nMany of our creatures feature the Modular keyword. ("},{"attributes":{"italic":true},"insert":"Modular X (This creature enters with X +1/+1 counters on it. When it dies, you may put its +1/+1 counters on target artifact creature.)"},{"insert":"\nThis package of Modular creatures has two major functions in this deck. First, these creatures enter with 1 or more +1/+1 counters by default for us to remove to draw cards. Second, if these creatures die without losing their counters, all of their counters can be moved to another artifact creature...such as Iron Spider! Having your creature die to Doom-Blade feels much less bad when its counters can be shuffled onto another creature, especially when you have been stacking those counters with Iron Spider's first ability."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Iron Spider can both attack on your turn and crew Vehicles on an opponent's turn, as well as powering up vehicles with their tap ability. \nBecause Vehicles become creatures when crewed, they can catch our Modular counters to grow even larger!"},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Colorless favors Artifacts and Creatures over Instants and Sorceries. By tuning our Ramp, Removal, and Card Draw to come from our creatures, we can buff them up as a bonus. A huge Ornithopter of Paradise or Circuit Mender can really catch an opponent off guard.\n\nWhat's our game plan?\n\nThis is a creature and combat heavy. We want to fill our board with tons of sticky artifacts, whether they pass their counters along with Modular or create another artifact body when they die. We have some tools like Throne of Geth and Ravenous Amulet to sacrifice some of our Modular creatures and move the counters over at our own pace. We can start removing counters from artifact creatures and vehicles we control to refill after some of our artifacts get picked off during combat. \n\nBonuses:\nThe \"backup\" commander for this precon would be Living Brain, Mechanical Marvel. Living Brain would focus more on changing the base power/toughness of our modified creatures (for example, our 0/0 Modular creatures), as well as pseudo-crewing our Vehicles on turns that we do not have enough power to pilot them.\n\nThe Commander Reinforcements category includes 5 cards that I felt could fit in a Secret Lair bundle like the Counter Intelligence and World Shaper bundles from the Chaos Vault. \n\nThe UB Replacements Category are three cards that could replace the Goliath Truck, Night Scythe, and Canoptek Spider if crossing into UB is too taboo for a precon.\n\nThe deck would be much stronger if it focused on either the creature or vehicle themes instead of both. However, I feel like this adds to the precon-nis of the list, giving multiple directions for refinement.\n\n"}]}
