Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Mog feels pretty natural at bracket 2 tables. What's happening is very telegraphed and incremental, there isn't a ton of removal, it takes awhile to recover if the board gets wiped, and Mog offers opponents a chance to rummage on each of your end steps which can help out players who are falling behind. The biggest leap you can make in one turn is playing Porcelain Gallery with a decent number of creatures on the board, and the most broken thing it can do is loop board protection with Sun Titan/Guardian Scalelord and one of the Selfless Spirit effects, though removing the former puts an end to it, as I don't have ways of recurring them. \n\nWhile fair, Mog is also quite fun to play. Swinging out with an army of big lifelinkers is satisfying, and consistently triggering your Mentor of the Meek style effects gives a modest but consistent source of card draw. Playing the Dance minigame with your opponents also adds some interesting interaction. Since you don't make a moogle if a creature isn't discarded, there's a high density of creatures here to make sure at least that happens, but if you think your opponents are onto the pattern, you can switch it up by discarding a noncreature to try to get max benefits. Fair warning, it's easy to get distracted by making the moogle token and putting counters on your creatures, so don't forget to draw your card in the midst of it. \n\nSince the deck relies on building up your board over the course of several turns, it's important that you survive any board wipes or you'll fall behind. There's a decent amount of full board protection in here, though most of it is only effective against destroy and damage based wipes, and does nothing against mass exile, -x/-x, and forced sacrifice. For those you'd need Clever Concealment or Guardian of Faith. Aven Interruptor is also a good option to stall a wipe for a turn. I might think about replacing a protection spell with something like Tibalt's Trickery as well, just for another option against e.g., Toxic Deluge, and to also to be able to stop someone's game-winning play.\n\nAnd for that reason all of the board wipes in this deck are capable of being one-sided, so you can deal with someone's problematic board and catapult ahead to being the villain of the table yourself. \n\nFor the first couple turns that Mog is on the board you can usually feel free to tap out to put down value pieces. People typically don't clock him as being a problem until he has already made an army of moogles, and at that point you don't really need him anymore. Though if you sense the table has it out for Mog early, feel free to delay moogle production until you can cast him and hold up protection. There's a lot of 2-mana ramp in the deck so an example curve could be t2 ramp, t3 card draw engine (like Mangara), t4 Abzan Falconer + Spectacular Spider-man, t5 Mog protected. \n\nIf you have Sun Titan/Angel of Indemnity in hand and you're feeling brave, you can let Mog go to the graveyard upon death and try to get him back with one of them, though if they get countered you're going to have to finish the game without him. \n\nAlthough I've included Will of the Jeskai and Snort since they're fun effects for the whole table, consider that this may disincentivize your opponents from doing the Dance minigame for awhile. But, you can get information on the quality of your opponents' hands based on whether or not they wheel. If the blue player kept their hand of 4 there's a good chance they have a counterspell, or maybe the Orzhov player who kept their hand has a board wipe they want to introduce next turn. This information can help you decide who to put more pressure on during combat. \n\nAlso, Snort is nice since you can discard it with Mog and still have it available to flash back later, and Will of the Jeskai has the Past in Flames mode which in the late game can be useful to recast something like Taunt from the Rampart. \n\nRemember the life total protection part of Flare of Fortitude, which can help you survive an otherwise game-winning attack or life-drain from your opponents. \n\nConsidering: Tibalt's Trickery (for board wipes that get around indestructible)\n"}]}
