Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"Welcome to the first deck in a series of builds I'm calling Brewing Bad. The concept is to take largely unpopular, often underpowered, commanders - specifically only commanders with fewer than 1000 decks on EDHRec - and do my best to make functional, interesting, and unique decks centered around them. Today, I'm tackling a commander with a whopping 8 decks on EDHRec at time of writing: "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Kodama of the Center Tree"}},{"insert":". First printed in Betrayers of Kamigawa, this commander wants us to drop as many spirits as we can, not only on the battlefield, but also in the graveyard thanks to the strange Soulshift mechanic that allows us to return a lower costed spirit from the graveyard to our hand whenever a creature with Soulshift dies.. Once we ramp up, our goal is to drop as many spirits as we can, sacrifice them for value and return them to our hands from the yard to start the fun all over. Once we've established ourselves, our focus turns to getting as many spirits on the board as we can so our Kodama stays a huge, threatening beater.\n\nWhile I knew this was a fringe commander, I was surprised by just how unpopular it actually is - 8 decks is insanely low! That said, I understand why this deck may not be people's first choice. Spirits are definitely not one of Green's strongest tribes, and until the recent rules changes in Commander, Kodama's Soulshift ability was significantly worse. That's the purpose of Brewing Bad, though: to shine the spotlight on largely unknown commanders and create interesting decks with their restrictions. Keep in mind that while I wouldn't consider these decks to be budget builds, I try to avoid including cards over $20 unless they are absolutely crucial to the deck. If you like this deck, and are interested in more Brewing Bad deck builds, let me know! I also plan to start making video deck techs for these and I'll edit this post with a link if and when I do so!\n"}]}
